The Unf*ck It Thread

Spent too much money at The Container Store, but I really really like how many pantry turned out! Still too much crap in there, but at least I can see everything to use it up (cough cough tea) and nothing’s precariously stacked anymore :joy:

I have a few piles of depression paper & other items and now they are collectively named:
The Dread Piles of Roberts

I thought someone here would appreciate my humour.

Attacked another closet…not sure if I’m getting truly fed up by the lack of organization in my house, or if I’m hardcore procrastinating :joy:. Whatever, I’ll take it

I found this at my mom’s house in a basket. Leftover yarn balls from the hats she used to make, exposed to young children for 10 years. I have now resolved it into 30 separate balls to use in my Chaos Blanket.

I am jealous of all the untangling you get to do. That is perfect yarn for Chaos Blanket™

Has anyone had much experience getting gasoline out of clothing?

I had my first ever encounter with a gas nozzle that didn’t shut off yesterday :sob: and my new hiking pants were a casualty. They went through the wash but reeked enough coming out I didn’t want to put them through the dryer…decided to let them air out first and maybe wash again.

In the meantime suggestions welcome.

(For clarification, I got splashed a bit but not soaked. I don’t think there was enough concentration in the wash water to damage anything. But the smell persists.)

Husband says hot water and a cosolvent like alcohol - as in dump a drugstore bottle of isopropyl alcohol in the hot soapy water once it fills. Obviously wash by itself.

ETA bonus points if any of you remember the FUCKING ROCKETSHIP and it made you laugh.

Not to derail the conversation too much, but may I ask what you did when this happened? I would like to mentally prepare for my day at war.

Reached over and stopped the nozzle manually. Fortunately, it was just the auto-off that malfunctioned. For bigger mishaps I have seen an emergency shutoff lever (not sure if it’s for 1 pump or all pumps but if you’re spewing gas you’d pull first ask questions later… also no smoking to soothe one’s nerves!)

I only got maybe a tablespoon or so on me and I think less than a cup splashed on the car/ground. I was worried that the fuel level being too high would be a problem (they do tell you not to “top off”) but my husband said it was fine and it was.

Yeah look at your preferred stations- there’s a large button on the ones I go to labeled “emergency shutoff”. Go slam that mofo

It happened to my mom once when I was there as a kid- she hucked the spewing nozzle into the nearby trashcan as one of my brothers went to the button- idk if that’s a bad idea or not but she got way less on the ground than she would have otherwise. (And less on her car, that might have been the motivation hahah)

I was going to clean the bathroom so obviously this happened instead.

And I pulled everything out of three of the drawers and purged a few things (I don’t need six or seven yard work jeans that have been retired from “wear out of the house” status) before putting it all back. As a bonus I find two things that I thought I had stored elsewhere but then couldn’t find, now they’re much more visible.

Parent life: part of the cleaning was returning two landscaping rock “gifts” to the outdoors.
