the real housewives of figure skating ⛸ (drama + grace)

Okay but isabeau Levito’s costumes - I love them. She’s bejeweled within an inch of her life but it works!

Totally agree  the first one especially is like, so romanov, and I love it.

Europeans are being streamed on youtube. Quite enjoying watching during the Friday lunch break, especially since many of them are fairly new to me.

I recommend the Men’s long program, some really great skating, especially the third last and second last flights.

women’s free - Estonian skater at around 80 minutes in the ISU live stream. Home crowd definitely with her. (eta: Niina Petrõkina)

I just don’t love this free skate. She’s clearly talented and flexible and her jumps are out of this world. But I feel like the music selection means she can be really all over the place with steps and it helps her rack up program component scores.

Compare to her dreamy free skate from a few days ago

agreed. It doesn’t feel like there is any real choreography in the long, especially compared to Shcherbakova’s performance.

it seemed like there was maybe a wonky area in the ice for the Ladies free? A few people seemed to lose their spiral in a similar area.

how little credit does Four Continents get, especially in an Olympic year? no city in the Four Continents actually wanted to host, so it’s being held in Estonia, the same venue that did the Europeans last week.

No one cares about Four Continents in the Olympic years.
Even though it is a championship, it really is barely equivalent to Europeans, which is its intentions.

At least in the US, 4CCs is usually a “sorry you didn’t make the Olympic team” assignment. In other years, it is a pretty good one to get, but often also at least one spot will go to the person left off the world team.

The Canadians did likewise. And of many countries who have American women skating for them thanks to dual citizenship.

Seeing Daisuke Takahashi return in dance is interesting, but the beginning of their rhythm dance was painful.

ok, the women’s free in FC, the final flight was worth watching. As was Rino Matsuike, who jumped up several spots after a poor SP.
The pairs was quite weak - and only 6 couples. I’m assuming the dance will have been as well. Haven’t caught up with the men yet.

Mark Kondratyuk skating to Jesus Christ Superstar killed me. That’s all I have to contribute to this discussion.

Wait, what, now?? I didn’t see this and now I have to look it up.

I don’t have access to full olympics coverage (just youtube) but I just discovered Isabeau Levito and wow! Too young for this olympics but it’ll be exciting to watch her keep going, she’s so graceful. You can tell she actually feels the music in her bones. She isn’t just counting/memorizing, which always drives me nuts because it’s so obvious. I’m sure you already know all about her lily, lol.

She’s fabulous! I’m loving her- also her costumes did a great job at maturing her into the senior level. It’s her first year as a senior.

Btw if you have $4.99 to spare, I invested in the peacock subscription for this month only :joy::sweat_smile: I don’t have broadcast tv so this is my method.

Romsky’s free program hurt my heart. Poor babe. Hope he redeems himself for the men’s individual. He’s an amazing skater when he is on - singling multiple jumps

He wasn’t even supposed to compete in the free team, but his teammate got Covid and he was subbed super last minute
