Carpooling tonight to an event that’s on the other side of Perth.
I brought a lovely teacup to work for use as something to put my tea ball in, so I am much more likely to make looseleaf tea at work.
We have a green team at work that I am apart of. We had a drive for old dishes from employees to stock our break room. People brought in mugs, plates, and silverware.
The company catered Qdoba for a morale event and most people were using the actual dishes instead of the paper and plastic brought by Qdoba! The employees put the dishes right next to the beginning of the buffet and it was a huge success. There are now real mugs stored next to the coffee and the paper ones are stored in the cupboards out of site so people are more likely to use the real mugs and wash them.
I am making notes on the packaging different companies use to ship goods to me. The pet supply place I’ve been using ships using a horrid amount of plastic bags and wrap. I shall be looking for an alternative source (they get an F from me). The delivery I just took of sunscreen from Chemist Warehouse only had a bit of plastic tape to keep the cardboard box closed, and used scrunched brown paper to pad the sunscreen. They get a B (I may email them to suggest using an alternative tape).
I accidentally left the charging cord for my Chromebook at my friend’s house while I was dog sitting. Instead of driving to go get it, I rode my bike. 35 hilly miles later, I’m spent and I have my charging cord back.
My husband needed a lunchbox for work, so I suggested he wait until Thanksgiving when we were seeing my parents because I knew they had a few of them lying around from our school days. They offered us FOUR to choose from that they never use anymore. So now my husband has a lunchbox, and we didn’t have to buy anything new.
Yesterday I bought some fabric made of recycled plastic.
Today I actually womanned up and asked how the bulk bins work at the farmers market stall. Next time, I’m buying food there!
I’m sure drying my laundry to save on elevator trips, money, electricity and humidifier use
I had heard that too but it’s not true! The diapers we shared with you have been through several newborns’ méconium! It cleans off of cloth easier than off of butts!
Hi everyone! I just discovered this thread and have been reading through and I am in love!
Recently we changed to HiBAR for shampoo and conditioner and this deodorant (https://habitatbotanicals.com/products/deodorant-bundle) which acts like regular deodorant but we can compost the tubes!
A couple of weeks ago I made my own sugar wax and waxed my legs for pennies while at home watching tv. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to shaving. It was practically no mess, no waste, and two weeks later there’s still no sign of the hair! It was easier than I expected and not particularly painful either. Unfortunately I didn’t make enough so I’ve been running around with half hairless half hairy legs for weeks but it’s winter here! Next time I’ll make a bigger batch.
I had done some sugar waxing before at a salon but the price, transportation and time required were all prohibitive.
Oh interesting, how does this work? I’ve heard of the concept but am unclear… do you have a link?
I used this video to make it: https://youtu.be/tFcLbNm5mGE
She also I think has videos on how to apply it but I didn’t use them since I’d seen it done! If you’re looking at videos, some use strips of cloth but I just used the ball of sugar in my hand method where you take a ball of sugar wax and pull it up against your leg (against the grain of hair) and then flick it off. You can reuse the ball until it starts to get melty this way!
Oooh I want to learn the ball method. I tried this yeeeeears ago and trying to wash the cloth was a nightmare.
Tried to do the sugaring thing again last night but I must have under cooked it because it wasn’t working well at all. I’m glad I’ve had a good experience with it because it makes me inclined to try again.
Today I took the bus to work instead of driving, and I’m about to walk to the pet store for more wet cat food! Baby steps!
Made my own lunch, DH’s lunch, DH’s iced coffee in a thermos and brought my own water bottle. I also went into work to use shared air conditioning that would be running anyway, instead of staying home and having to cool the entire house just for me.
I bought Christmas presents from local companies.
I did some decent re-using this week. Reused a thick plastic packaging piece as a kitty food tray, used old pet water for my plants before refilling, and cut up a pair of leggings that would have otherwise gone into the trash to make a center console cover in my car.
We put a blind on the hottest window and a curtain rail on an uncovered glass sliding door. Our aircon hasn’t had to run as hard to keep us alive through this 40*C day as it did last week during a cooler day!
