Skincare

I’m so intrigued but also terrified that it will damage me!

The laser at my chiropractor’s office works wonders though.

Only if you want to! I have very medium (not dry, not oily, not acne prone) skin that’s quite resilient. But, I’d say the effects of the light are mild at best. To my understanding there’s very little risk.
But if you do go for it, maybe build up starting from just 3-5 minutes a day until you get to 10-15 minutes?

Tyyyyyy you are such a champion!! I really appreciate your research!!

I have mixed feelings overall about AliExpress et al but it’s more about consumerism and whatnot and I really really really don’t like giving money to Amazon so I made my peace with it. Also when I was shopping for computer parts that was the best source for a bunch of it!

What do you do to protect your eyes? Have you seen any changes?

The face mask come with little gaskets around the eyeholes that keep any of the light from going directly onto your eyes. I’ll be completely honest I have a big nose and I had to take them out, but the mask fits snugly enough for me that none of the light gets to my eyes. The larger open style lamp came with little goggles.

To my eyes? If that’s what you mean, no, they are fine. If you mean my skin, yes, I think so. I do wish I had isolated some treatments so I could really see what’s what, but I have seen a reduction in fine lines in areas where I have not done anything but put red light, zero other intervention.
Example, “smokers lines” on my top lip were starting to get quite visible and have both stopped developing and all but disappeared. I’m not a smoker, but I’ve used straws my entire life. I hate drinking directly out of vessels.
^ Anecdotal, of course.
Also, genetics. My folks passed down some undesirable traits for sure but my father, who is almost 76 also doesn’t have a damn wrinkle on his face. It’s so strange. My mother had some, but they were extremely mild until maybe… 65ish years old (9-10 years ago) when she had dramatic weight loss and lost elasticity.

Tbh one of the main reasons I’ve stuck with it daily/most days is that I find it really relaxing. I feel like a well loved plant sitting under a grow light getting my nutrients.

I am very intrigued and I really appreciate and admire that you did the legwork to find it from the source in China!! I think Marmalade would be very disturbed to see his wife looking like a droid assassin though :joy:

But I’m starting to get wrinkles and am feeling middle age creeping upon my face. Sigh.

…… yeah that would be… weird.

Yeah, I can’t do that to Marmalade. To be honest, I would probably even scare myself

They get used to it. I have this mask: https://omniluxled.com/products/omnilux-contour-face
It was expensive, I did do research but not into alternative brands from China. Also, I got it like 4 houses ago (this is a special Ivy family measurement of time since the last few years have been so much upheaval!) If I had to guess, maybe it was 2021? Possibly 2022?

Anyway, family members do freak out the first time and then they get used to it. But also, it’s like ten minutes every other day. You can do it when you are not in the same room with them.

I do think it helps but I’ve also not used it nearly as often as directed. (See previous upheaval.) My coworkers guessed I was 42 at most the other day, and I’m 54 so that’s something?

Your skin is amazing. If this is your secret, then I think I have to seriously consider it :joy:

Thank you! You look young to me so I don’t know if you really need it, but it doesn’t hurt? My other secrets are sunscreen every day and also tretinoin. Although, again, I haven’t been using it as routinely as I’m supposed to for optimal results the last few years. At least I never lost my sunscreen routine and I do use moisturizer every day as well.

I mentioned it to Marmalade and he started laughing. He said it’s a meme and I’m getting into looksmaxxing

Well at least he doesn’t seem opposed to it, he just thinks it’s funny!

I’ve been influenced!! I bought the one @JanetJackson recommended from Ali Express. I got it in white, I think it looks a little less scary than the black one. But does it actually?? I think maybe then I just look like Freddy Krueger :joy: Scary mask and beautiful skin, here I come!!

Also, @Ivy, I’ve been very good about sunscreen on my face!

I also have it in the cart. Will I press go? Maybe.

ETA: probably.

Now if I could get good about this!! It’s so damn expensive and feels sooooo yucky. I’d say I succeed 2-3 days per week?

I’m sorry it feels yucky to you. The sun’s rays are our biggest enemy in the fight against aging skin! I have an aunt who is kind of brilliant, a card-carrying member of MENSA, at least. And she has been covering up her skin from the sun since wayyyyyyyy before anyone else was thinking about it. I remember being a little kid in Arizona in the late seventies/early eighties and sunscreen wasn’t really a thing anyone was buying and putting on, we were all just getting fried. And she’d be there in a giant hat, huge sunglasses, even gloves on her hands. I thought she was kind of weird, maybe we all did? But let me tell you, she has had the prettiest, softest, smoothest skin my whole life, even though she was “old.” And now she is officially old, she’s currently 80 and she looks like maybe possibly 60? She has wrinkles now, of course, but nothing like an 80 year-old and her skin is still very soft. There’s none of that leather-y look or or even a bunch of fine lines. Just sort of the main wrinkles.

So she’s smart and I’m not that smart but I can see the evidence very plainly so I’m trying to be more like her than less like her. I hope you can find a way to keep those sun rays from getting you!

It does feel yucky! I just put it on the back of my hand and do my cheeks and nose. I actually don’t do my whole face but those are the areas that get the most sun!

If you can get Korean sunscreen, it feels much nicer! I’m on the last of my sticky sunscreen and then I’m going to use the Korean stuff.
