Ooooooh I didn’t think of self tanning type stuff! Thank you!!
Updated link to the first one, this one is sold by the manufacturer and is less likely to be fake (common issue with skincare on amazon)
please note: they have another “sunprise” that is chemical that has almost the same packaging. The 100% physical one is called " Mild Airy Finish"
The Ordinary product reviews:
Overall: Mostly, everything seems… fine? No miracle products. Nothing’s been horrible to my skin, at least, I look no worse. But, I also don’t look better, and that sucks.
Squalane cleanser: I like this a lot, it doesn’t smell like anything, removes makeup well, and removes the grease from the makeup remover I use to get my waterproof mascara off.
Natural moisturizing factors: It’s… fine? Not greasy, I feel moisturized.
Rose hip oil: This is the one thing I really don’t care for; it feels greasy (duh, it’s oil!) even after rubbing it in and letting it absorb, and my face immediately turned bright red upon application. I have been using it up by applying it to my neck, where it seems fine. This is definitely not something I’d use in warm weather though. Not going to buy this again.
Buffet: Feels nice going on, I feel like it made a slight bit of difference in skin texture and I seemed to break out less. Might buy this again if the next thing I try doesn’t have great results.
Argireline: I’m kind of disappointed in this one, it feels fine going on but is supposed to improve wrinkle appearance, reviews suggest it is some sort of miracle product, and it’s done jack shit in that area for me. Not going to buy this again.
Caffeine eye serum: Seems to help for a short time with the crepey-ness of my undereyes. Maybe a little on the swelling and puffiness but not super noticeable.
Azelaic acid: this is supposed to help with redness and zits. It leaves my skin VERY matte and kind of tight feeling so I have to follow it immediately with moisturizer. I think this would be a good hot-weather product and I’m breaking out somewhat less. Unsure if the redness has improved at all.
I think I am going to try the hylamide next as it is supposed to be plumping.
Both the Sunprise ones you linked to say “mild airy finish”?
I’ll have to check when I get home which one I have–I don’t think it’s that one. Maybe that’s my problem (the one I have makes me break out).
Yea, I just linked to two different listings: the second one I linked to is sold by the manufacturer, cutting down on possibility of fakes (common issue on amazon).
If you’re breaking out it could be that it has some other ingredient (like aloe or Acai berry) that makes you break out, or you got a fake. Or it just makes you break out, not everything works for everyone!
This is the CHEMICAL one that annoyingly has almost the same packaging but is “mild watery light” note that it does have phsyical ingredients like zinc in it:
Oh, I see! I had ordered from the Etude House website so I probably didn’t get a fake. I might try whichever one I didn’t already try!
@Bracken_Joy
I went to the dermatologist yesterday and they confirmed demographia.
They said it is like a low level allergic reaction all the time. No wonder our skin is so sensitive!
At this point I’ve tried 3 different mineral sunscreens, including the Australian gold, and I’ve gotten transient hives from them all. The dermatologist basically said I was out of his league and referred me to NYU dermatology for a huge allergy test panel. He also recommended I explore using allergy medicine to calm things down with the demographia temporarily. I’m going to wait and get more specific advice from someone who deals more with allergies than this guy though.
Right now I’m only using Vanicream face wash and facial moisturizer. It makes me a bit oily but it seems to be my best option for now.
Let me know if you want my med history with my autoimmune urticaria. It’s all OTC.
Also let me know if you find a sunscreen you like. I’m still dragging me feet. I currently need to isolate what is causing bumps all over the backs of my hands or if it’s just dry skin the roulette of- do I use MORE? Less??
Yes please! Feel free to PM me if you prefer.
@flan cc’ing you here since the acid I use is from The Ordinary but they don’t have a BHA only anymore.
I recommended flan look into BHAs but have only used Stridex Red Box as a budget bha that didn’t do much for me, back in the day.
Been looking for a good one so this works for me too!

I’m using it for blackheads, not acne.
I’m doing lactic right now. I liked retinol but too much upkeep. Never tried bha.
*I’m doing lactic like 1-2 days a month
I don’t know what to do about blackheads. I guess what I’m doing is trying to make myself ignore them, tell myself no one else can see them. I only see them because I’m looking at my face in a lighted, magnifying mirror.
I’ve heard good things about BHA, but haven’t tried it. I’m already using tretinoin and lactic acid and vitamin c serum daily. And I have niacinamide in my moisturizer. I don’t know if I should add more acids but I’ve been intrigued by azelaic acid. Mostly, I was thinking for my teenager because she’s been getting those teenage breakouts. I haven’t taken that step but I did just order for her The Balance Set by The Ordinary in an effort to give her a skincare regimen that will work for her teenage skin. What I’m personally doing is all about trying to fight the wrinkles and just have my skin look younger again. But she needs something different. This is what The Balance Set is:
The Balance Set from The Ordinary combines Squalane Cleanser, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Salicylic Acid 2% Masque, and Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA creating a skincare regimen which helps to cleanse the skin while providing solutions for lackluster tone, textural irregularities, balancing visible aspects of sebum activity, and dehydration. Cruelty-free & Vegan. Does not contain alcohol, gluten, nuts, oil, silicone, parabens, sulfates.
Includes:
** Squalane Cleanser (1.7 oz)*
** Salicylic Acid 2% Masque (1.7 oz)*
** Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (1.0 oz)*
** Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (1.0 oz)*
I guess I’ll let you know how it goes for her with those products. She hasn’t started using them yet.
I’m gonna get this I think: https://www.amazon.com/Paulas-Choice-SKIN-PERFECTING-Exfoliant-Facial-Blackheads/dp/B00949CTQQ/
Will report back!
For blackheads, I used to squeeze them out and then use a Kiss My Face tea tree clay mask (which seemed to draw out any remaining oils) and then a Kiss My Face anti-acne gel to prevent inflammation. It worked well! But I think I stopped getting blackheads in my 30’s. Either that or I don’t have my super close vision superpower after getting vision surgery and now I just can’t see them anymore
Hi I didn’t forget about this I’ve just been a useless human the last few days
So I’ll go cliffsnotes:
Started with 2 Zyrtec and 2 ranitidine per day for a month to get everything well under control
Dropped to 2 Zyrtec/1 ranitidine.
Dropped to 1/1.
Dropped to just 1 Zyrtec.
Dropped to 1/2 daily Zyrtec, where I have remained for many years.
Eta:
Oh yeah, some thing I forgot to mention. The allergist told me not to use any topical antihistamine creams. They actually can sensitize the immune system. I don’t know if that applies to everybody or just those of us with chronic urticaria. But he said only systemic medications, no topical treatments.
I agree that most people can’t see them at all, fwiw, I have a ton of blackheads. BUT, I used to be really upset by them and tried all the things to get rid of them. IMO the best way is with an extraction. If you call around to med spas and ask for “blackhead extraction” they can give you some prices. I’ve tried all the products to do it and I had way too many to do myself but that’s the only thing that truly got rid of 100% of them.
Anyone get atopic dermatitis around their eyes? I’m pretty sure that’s what I have going on. (Although suggestions welcome- dry/puffy/slightly flakey skin above and below both eyes right now).
If you do- how do you manage it, what triggers it, how long does it take to go away, and is it associated with any other conditions for you? Ty.
I have had what I think was this a few times in my life. Honestly, I didn’t seek any kind of help for it; I just avoided makeup in that area, put some vaseline on it at night to soften the flakes, and then rubbed them off gently with a washcloth in the morning and just dealt with the puffy and slightly redness. If it were to happen to me again, I would try my First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream as the first line of defense because it’s the only thing I’ve found that helps ALL my skin issues.
I only assume mine was atopic dermatitis because I’ve been diagnosed with it elsewhere and it seemed the same. For the elsewhere, my doctor prescribed topical steroids, and they didn’t help much.
I never did figure out what triggered it though. I have such mysteriously sensitive skin—at various times I’ve been diagnosed with nickel allergy, mosquito allergy, urticaria, keratosis pilaris, atopic dermatitis, and no one has ever been able to give me a straight answer on whether what happens to my hands sometimes is eczema or psoriasis. The only two things that have helped every single one of these issues are showering less often and Ultra Repair Cream.
I also seem to be unusually susceptible to fungal infections that OTC topical fungal meds don’t work on, and for that, I found a natural one that worked where all the others failed.
Oh hello PRECISELY ME.
Also, it occurred to me after I posted that that I just had a massive break out because of the sunscreen that I had to use for a couple days. So I imagine those are linked, if all of my skin is angry.
How did you ID fungal infection? What did that look like for you?
Sorry for a million Qs haha.
