Actually, do you have any pattern recs for a first timer? I made a baby sized cardigan from tin can knits last year but that’s as far as I’ve gone in terms of non shawl garments.

I’ve encountered yarn chicken mostly when I break out the last skein :yarn: of a project. You are bold to start a project with yarn chicken in the mix!

@Oro I love your question! I only wish I had stopped in sooner to be able to be the one to answer it. Fiber crafters have a clever and fun vocabulary.

Fiber friends, I have attempted to upload pictures to this thread several times from my phone, is there a thread or tutorial that I can use to help troubleshoot?

Tin Can Knits has a bunch of beginner friendly patterns, with many of them going all the way from infant to adult sizes. But I haven’t knit any of them, so I can’t speak to their ease or outcome directly.

I would probably look for a top down raglan as a first sweater, because that will let you try it on as you go. Cardigans are often more challenging, with shoulder fitting easy to get wrong.

Fingering weight is generally the most affordable, but it also requires the most time to knit up, so it likely makes more sense to do something in a DK weight. Worsted/aran/bulky is very warm, and requires more skeins.

There is a current thing for cropped tops with positive ease in the social media knitting community, which might work well over your tunics.

Felix is having a moment atm: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/felix-pullover
And Andrea Mowry is probably one of the top 3 grossing designers of the past 2-3 years. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nurtured

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/no-frills-sweater has the ‘hold a mohair strand with another yarn’ trend going for it, but people say it fits well, and you can just buy the right weight yarn to begin with.

What type of phone do you have? I can do screenshots from my android if that would help.

I vacillate between being a process crocheter and a product crocheter. Right now I’m in a process phase, so reworking a project several times to get fit/yardage right is not nearly as annoying as it would be of I were in a product phase. And I had to find something to do with this yarn.

Lost the game on the first try, then over compensated on the second, with a too-small product and too much yarn (including my favorite color in this skein) leftover. Third time’s the charm, I hope. Once I board today’s train shortly I’ll get started on it.

Choose the photo button (second from the right below the text box)

On my Android, I get the following options:

Choose “files” to upload a photo you’ve already taken or “camera” to take a new photo.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! Of course I have several skeins of neighborhood fiber co merino worsted on hand but would probably find that too warm for a sweater. Maybe I’ll try something in cotton for my first attempt

Personally I find cotton rough on my wrists, and I think it can be less forgiving in a garment, because it doesn’t hold its shape in the same way that wool does - I wouldn’t recommend it as a first sweater.

What about https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lemongrass ? Though it might get pilly if you do a looser gauge with merino.

One of my instagram posts of the in-progress golden cable sweater made it into the Knitting Vicariously podcast montage this week. I feel pretty chuffed

Casting on with this tonight to whip up another hat for little bro. He really liked the one I made for him for Christmas and it was made in not great hand me down acrylic. This is NFC wool DK that I dyed in a workshop at their studio so I’m hoping he likes it a lot. I love the color but wouldn’t wear it myself (was shooting to get more of an emerald color like the dark spot but got more neon) so it’s a perfect use for a special dye!

Ohhh that color is beautiful.

Thank you! I can’t wait to see how it knits up.

Me neither!

I can’t decide on the next sweater to make, and as I have mentioned elsewhere I have a new pair of jeans that are too short. Plus I’m sure somewhere an influencer is trying to bring back Flashdance.

The light was weird in this photo but you can see the variations in the yarn which I love. It’s more neon green in real life. Mailed it off to little bro today, I hope he likes it!

Yarn chicken failure

Ripping backed half a repeat. Does anyone have a child who would want a purple cable hat?

Ok, really not enough yarn for a cable hat, even child size. And I couldn’t face doing those cables a third time.

Tin Can Knits’ Barley pattern in the toddler size (17.5 inches), model is Atomic Robo from one of the kickstarters.

I have these three yarns that I feel need to stay together. I can’t decide if I should make a 3/4 sleeve pullover, a cardigan, or a shawl.

Reactions gratefully received.
