Clearly for snack reconnaissance, just waiting for that moment of opportunity
On close examination, I’m not sure that carrot was much of a loss. It looks pretty wrinkly.
Luigi was super playful today, tossing his santa claus around and pouncing to make him squeak.
I dared stand up and he immediately moved his toy safely behind his paws.
I love how they are often in a catpile.
Tomorrow is the worst day for us. The best dog in the world, a 12-year old Great Dane who saved me from two bears and one methhead, and who is smarter than most three-year-olds and so good we can leave him alone with a pot roast cooling down, and who once could outrun the deer in our woods, the dog who gave my baby Rhode Island Red chicks a yard tour in his mouth when they escaped their pen and returned them, sloppy wet and unharmed, when the humans discovered they were loose, can’t get himself up, has labored breathing, and is generally letting us know that he’s too tired now. Assuming he wakes up in the morning, we’re going to try to talk our vet into a home visit because he’s terrified of going to her office. I expect she’ll come after work if she possibly can, or work us in if she has farm visits in the afternoon.
I’m so so sorry. This is the hardest moment. Their lives are too short.
Oh, yes. Why do they have to get so old so fast?
I’m so sorry
I’m so sorry - what a great protector, friend and family member.
ETA: when we had to put Girl Dog down in May, the vet made a paw print with her name (I am sure I paid for that). I am glad we have that. I wrote the date on the back with Sharpie.
Love to you and your old pup.
Hugs. It’s so hard to let them go.
In October I had a mobile vet come, and it is so worth the extra $ for them to be comfortable.
