Thank you :heart::heart:

When you tailor it though, please pretend you are a very British, seasoned, old-school Savile Row tailor. I did it when I tailored H’s wedding suit and I highly recommend.

Wear a tape measure around your neck and mutter things about basting stitches for true authenticity.

Also I’ve only been to London once and was nowhere near a Savile Row tailor shop, this is 100% my imagination.

I’m torn again. I’m tempted to make a new mock up but just of the front, side and back piece. And try again.
But I don’t want to beat a dead horse, you know? Or get myself even more frustrated on this.

I’m gonna try to play with the mock up again. And not be precious about it. I think you were right @Ckni27 – I was trying to have it be wearable and not the experiment that it is.

And proof that even on shit days good things happen: some of my coat swatches arrived! These are the possible contenders. I already sorted out some duds.

Eta: two at the top that are bright blue and purple are lining samples

That blue beetle print is to die for oh my goodness that’s a lining!

So I have an iron maiden of my own, from a family storage unit of yesteryear that got cleaned out when a great aunt died a few years back. It came with these.

Made in occupied Japan

So. Uh. Remember all my angst about the alterations not working?
Um.
They work pretty well.

I re-pinned and there’s a few spots that need work but it’s overall a good start.
Things to do:

  • My seams don’t match up post alterations so I might fuss that
  • I need to make it a little prettier
  • But on the whole?? It works.

I’m in love with that blue beetle print and must have a dress of it. Where did you get it?

Either of those linings would look amazing though.

Mood Fabrics. They’re still shipping but their orders are, understandably, delayed.
FYI that beetle pattern is definitely a lining and I don’t know if it would suit a dress. :frowning: It’s got a lot of acetate as the fiber count.

Well then maybe I need to make a coat so I can use it  ooh… or a cloak! I have lots of coats but only one cloak.

Cloaks need to be more of a thing. Anything that gets me the comfort of wearing a blanket while simultaneously looking awesome.

CLOAK

I also vote cloak. I realised I want to make the jacket I do because it reminds me of a cloak. Swish, swish, swoosh.

I am currently petting my fabrics working out what to make next. Fabric feels nice.

OK, I can’t give photos of fabric because Duckling has my phone, but I have some olive green jersey to make a sweater dress out of. Plan is to make a drop-waisted dress with a placket (buttons in the front). The skirt will be gathered and just a rectangle of fabric attached to the base of the bodice. For the bodice I’m either going to use:

^^This one has placket instructions

OR:

^^This one is designed for stretch fabrics, but has no placket so I’d be using the instructions from “Banksia” to work it out. I’m not too sure how to add the collar to this along with the placket?

ETA: OK so already I have decided I’m using the Briar as the basis because I already have that pattern here, so I can cut out pieces right now. Once I’ve done that I can work out how to add side pockets and a placket.

Anyone wanna help me pick?

Details:

  1. is a silk wool blend that has a really lovely shine to it.
  2. is 100% wool and “fine”
  3. Iridescent acetate lining. Has a side that is more red and a side that is more purple.
  4. Iridescent acetate lining. Has a side that is more blue and a side that is more purple.

Prices:

  1. 18$/yard
  2. 14$/yard
  3. 14$/yard
  4. 14$/yard

I would need approx. 3 yard of each. So high end of the coat materials (excluding any accent fabric I might pick up for the cuffs and collar as well as buttons) would be $96. Low end would be $84 (of two sets of options here). If I buy by the 14th I can get a 10% off coupon tho. So that’ll help a touch.

I’m leaning towards #1 and #4.

Yeah I think (2) is out. It’s “fine” but 1 is lovely.
SO YEAH. 1 and 3 or 1 and 4.
