I have a Costco jar of olives, but I got it pre-pandemic and it’s open. I’d offer to share some but I don’t think I can just mail an open thing of olives. Doesn’t Costco deliver? Maybe you could order a jar. Or a pallet.

I wish you could ship olives! That would be amazing. The Costco here is out of olives, at least for delivery. I knew last time I went I should have gotten more than 4 jars…I go through a jar probably every 2-3 weeks. It’s embarrassing, really.

I’m still good on food at day 7, but low on overnight diapers.

So what treats should I buy at the store???

I can’t decide between ginger chews and chips.

The shadowy one went out with a list and forgot the first thing on it, so I am down to my last bag of ginger tea and all I have left has caffeine or is throat coat.

All of them.

Candy. Sugary cereal. Baked goods. Cashews. Fresh berries. Frozen soft pretzels. Anything you’ve been craving.

I have a head of romanesco. I know what to do with it (roast with olive oil and salt!), but what else should I have with it to make it a meal? I have many kinds of beans, pasta, grains, etc. Hmm, maybe farro would be good. I am mostly vegan and don’t like anything spicy, or any nightshades, so it’s always difficult to come up with recipes for me!

Actually, I was also planning to have pizza with broccoli, but maybe I should put the romanesco on the pizza and have the broccoli with a stir fry or pasta or something?

Romanesco is so pretty. Could you do something like a vegan romesco sauce with roasted bell pepper, tomato, garlic, almonds? And then stretch with grains or pasta.

Update: I had to get stuff for someone else, so couldn’t fit everything. I did get chips AND snickers

I have dried seaweed. I have had dried seaweed for probably 5 years and I’ve just been going very slowly through the bag. We used to eat it on Saturdays with dumplings from the freezer with sesame oil and black vinegar, which is why I’m pretty sure about how long we’ve had it.

Yesterday lunch was seaweed with sesame oil & soy on top of rice and a fried egg, sprinkled with togarashi. Edible, but not inspiring.

I have hoison, soy, mirin, sesame oil, sriracha, miso curry condiment, pickled ginger, various curry pastes, kekap manis, miso, wasabi paste, tahini, miracle whip, harissa, coconut milk… Rice, pasta, pork, chicken, green lentils. My next plan was to do the miso curry condiment with rice and an egg again, but I fear that is just going for a local maxima.

I have 1/2 a block of tofu and I need ideas on something new to do with it. Caveat: I have no soy sauce, and all the recipes I have found involve soy sauce. Or red curry paste, which I also do not have. I have green curry paste, but green curry tofu is one of my frequent meals and I want something different.

I have rather a lot of homecanned plum butter and was thinking of doing this sauce recipe minus the soy sauce and just pouring it over my usual tofu and veggies. I am uncertain whether it’d be good without it, though.

Haven’t yet done a baked tofu recipe that I like but I could be convinced to try it again.
My tofu taco crumbles are delicious but I do not have any other taco accoutrements (and I actually just ate those for like 3 days straight anyway).

What’cha got?

Cubes, nonstick pan with oil, optional diced onion or garlic, lots of herbs(any of): thyme, sage, rosemary, marjoram, oregano. Lots of salt and black pepper. Start with 1/4c of water or broth in the pan. Finish with optional cayenne, smoked paprika, nutritional yeast or a squeeze of lemon

Delicious with mashed potatoes and gravy, or just all by themselves

Ooooo, I wonder how this would be with Indian spices? Or Thai spices (I have some Bangkok seasoning from Penzeys that might work)? Yum

I do have thyme, rosemary, and (I think) oregano.

Oh! I forgot the link to the sauce recipe. It sounds amazing. Though I’d be starting with the plum butter which has sugar, cinnamon and cloves in it. And I think the dates are superfluous, which is great because I don’t have any!

This was lunch. Also known as “I really need to finish these greens, and my preferred salad toppings are running a little low, but HEY I actually have all of these ingredients right now so let’s try this one.” Super simple, but yum!
(I didn’t have kale, though. I used spinach and a little arugula. Also, no raisins but that’s ok because raisins are foul.)

I’m not sure this is really answerable, but I’m going to ask anyway. My mom makes a honey bread that is very similar to banana bread in that it is dense and super moist. You know how the top is almost sticky? It’s like that. Anyway… I have made it twice in the last month and it’s not like hers which makes me cranky. I followed the recipe, but it’s drier and you can actually “thunk” the top when you tap it. It isn’t moist, and I won’t even eat the edges.

Ideas? Did I simply bake it too long and dry it out? The recipe says 75-90 minutes. The last time I made it I checked at 55 and it wasn’t close to done so I think I did 65 or 70 which was too long, so today I did 60 and it’s still dry. I have enough honey to try once more, but I’m a little annoyed that it’s not right. Like, it’s not anything like it should be especially on the top which just seems weird.

Is your oven reliable?

Same size and type of tin?

Any possible differences in egg size/flour density/etc?

Thanks!

Should be, not that old. I will use one of those thermometers to make sure temp is right

Yes, metal bread pan

Should be no difference

I used a hand mixer, should I have stirred by hand instead? I honestly can’t figure out why it’s not dense and moist, so maybe that changes the texture enough?

Same brand of flour?

I’m sure we both use one of two brands of flour because we shop at the same store, store brand or gold medal

It might need more liquid. I’m not sure about quick breads, but I do find my sourdough bread needs more water if it’s dryer or colder in the kitchen.
