Also, for people like me who have a hard time understanding the US medical system, I have been listening to this podcast since it started.
Need other book suggestions for a teenage girl whose request was for Twilight series
As the title says…I ended up with one more angel tree card this morning while dropping off the two I’d grabbed before, and while I’ll find a copy of Twilight and its sequels since that was a specific request, does anyone have any suggestions for other (possibly better) books in that general genre to include as well? I tried the first book in the Twilight series and gave up a couple chapters in, but my tastes tend to run to hard sci fi and space opera so I’m not a good judge of what similar books might be good.
How do you deal with an angry toenail? I had my nails done at the end of pregnancy because I couldn’t reach, and one got cut too short. It’s all red and mad now.
Soak in hot salt water. If it wants to become ingrown put floss between the nail and the toe so it can’t.
Part a, a very helpful website for this sort of thing: https://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/
Part b, my recommendations:
The Vampire Diaries
Vampire Academy
Daughter of Smoke and Bone series
As old as twilight, but I liked the trylle series and graceling/bitter blue
Watersong is probably a better rec because it has more twilight style angst while being excellent and disturbing
Oooh graceling/bitter blue is excellent. Though deeeeeeply disturbing at times. Moreso than twilight I think. I don’t think I’d go younger than 15 for someone for them probably? (Although I’m a GD hypocrite, I read all sorts of messed up stuff younger than that. YMMV).
I had full after bedtime access to my parents’ entire library when I was under 10, so I’m sure my idea if age appropriate reading is broken.
I have a random question of my own! At what stage of child development are you supposed to stop listening to and watching true crime podcasts/tv shows?
Never. You watch what you watch. You don’t have to watch fucking Barney or whatever just because you procreated.
Just keep it chill. Headphones instead of speakers.
My mom never did LOL I turned out fine. I think. maybe.
Ah, cool, very helpful and thanks for the website link. I should probably take a look at that for myself since I generally work from friends’ recommendations and poking around the library/thrift store for things I haven’t read.
And also thank you.
With some constraints based on what was available at the local bookstore since they needed the card returned today (and my own inability to buy books starting in the middle of a series which ruled out a few of the above as options), I now have the first two books in the Twilight series, the first in Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and Graceling to pass along, along with a gift card so she can finish whichever series she’d like.
And i’m definitely not the right person to talk to about what books at what age . By the time my parents realized I’d finished with my shelves and started on theirs it was a little too late for them to separate anything that they thought was age-inappropriate. Between Cujo, with a doggie on the cover, and Clan of the Cave Bear…yeah.
I learned so much! None of it helpful!
Husband wants to move to eating only wild caught salmon because of the omega 3’s that you can’t get in farm raised. We can get farm raised for $7.99/lb and wild caught for $16.99/lb. We eat salmon a lot (and I guess this means we could cut back) so I’d love to know if any of you have a resource where I could order online and freeze some that would be more cost effective?
A did a quick google and didn’t come up with much.
Oooh I forgot about costco. We had a membership before we moved here but got rid of it. H has been kinda wanting to check it out again to see if any of our regular stuff would be better there. Might be worth a look again
If you could find a restaurant supply AND buy enough to get a discount you might be able to get the price down more.
Ew. I hate headphones. But I can switch from murder to nature or history
You can also just watch when they are asleep. When they are little and take naps, you have naptime plus after bed. When they get bigger and no longer nap, you just watch after they are in bed for the night. They need to go to sleep earlier than we need to. Not like now, when they are making you need to take naps and go to bed early yourself.
Murder is still a common theme in all of those…
Yes. But educational. Not depraved.
