I haven’t seen any cars like that, honestly, but that’s what I’d call it in silk.

Duochrome???
I see people use this term for nail polish like that!

This is reminding me that G is very against me car wrapping the fridge. Sigh.

Thrilled that you might wrap something!

OMG car wrapping the fridge with this kind of paint (googling all suggested terms does not result in any consistency, leading me to believe that there is no official term) would be incredible. Then I’d get to see it every time I walk around the kitchen. More fun than the car because I’m inside the car most of the time that I’m using it!

Any good suggestions for getting rid of old socks? They’re all in good condition, but over the past 10-ish years I’ve moved to a pretty specific set for day-to-day wear, and in the process of decluttering the dresser I’ve got almost 20 pairs that’ve been stuck at the bottom of the sock drawer for years.

I’ve set a couple aside for emergency stuff (back of car, fire bag) but otherwise I have plenty of cleaning rags, local outreach groups generally require new for sock and underwear donations…is a bag of good-but-not-new socks something worth sending to the thrift shop or do I just bite the bullet and trash them?

my guess is that the thrift shops can’t take them, but you could try posting them on your local buy nothing or swap sites

some places have textile recycling programs. H&M and a few other fast fashion places have bins that they claim to do good things with. It may be as useless as binning them, but there is a chance they are useful

I have had luck giving away good condition socks in the Craigslist free section. And even very old fancy VS underwear, they were very clean because I used to use pantiliners, but ugh polyester. I ended up splitting up the huge collection and mailing to two different recipients (blacked out my address) who were definitely women who wanted them and not creepy dudes.

I use Ridwell for plastic recycling and they also take old textiles. They have started a mail-in program for people who don’t live in their normal service areas. I have a referral code if you want one!

I’d offer them up on Buy Nothing.

I think that textile recycling, especially for things that are typically mixed fiber, is pretty aspirational. There really is no market on any scale.

That’s one reason I like Ridwell, maybe they are lying but they show their recycling partner and track how much is recycled vs discarded for each of the majors cities they are in.

And I know people working in textile recycling. A lot is aspirational but some donations also go to the research programs working on the science. We are nowhere near mixed fiber socks turn into new socks but we can turn them into usable products

Yeah I don’t think the company I use claims anything gets turned into a new socks. But they do explicitly list old socks and underwear as being something to include in the mixed/worn down textiles and claim that 95% of all of these textiles picked up in my major metro area gets turned into stuffing and insulation with only 5% ending up in a landfill.

I’m not trying to say that textile recycling is perfect, but for a specific question about socks Ridwell seems like the best bet vs a random textile dropoff bin.

Regarding pelvic floor therapy: How effective is it when there are multiple prolapses involved? The uterine one is the worst one but I also have bladder and rectal prolapses. (Look at me being an overachiever!) My doctor has suggested PT before anything surgical, but said that if I do at some point go the surgery route (which I assume will have to happen eventually anyway but maybe it would be years from now) she would also fix the bladder and rectal stuff while she was in there. I have 1 friend who has had PT and will ask her what body part it was for but I haven’t talked to her yet. I guess I feel like 3 things is too many to fix that easily? And if it doesn’t really work then I have just wasted a bunch of time? She said it would be a vaginal surgery in order to fix everything, along with laparoscopic to remove the ovaries because they can be hard to find vaginally. Does that sound correct at my age of almost 56?

I think PT could help the immediate issues somewhat, but also set you you for better post-surgery recovery. No personal experience with prolapses.

I had only 1 issue but it predated parenthood. After 8 months of pelvic floor PT AND I DID THE EXERCISES… I still pee when I sneeze.

Yeah… and if I have multiple issues I worry if it’s worth doing.

It’s probably worth doing an initial consult- I know of success with bowel stuff too, and being prepared pre and post surgery.

Flip side is that even an initial consult can be too intrusive for some people.

I assume it’s about the same as a gynecologist appointment? Not that that’s exactly enjoyable…
