It does but that’s just because how I use my to-do lists at least half the time lol. “What is least offensive here? I shall start with that.”

The other half I actually ask what’s most urgent and do that, sigh.

Yep. The Rural method is to check if anything is super urgent and/ or already late and not going away. If no, then proceed to whatever looks fun. If nothing looks fun, then whatever will take the least time because marking things off the list is fun.

I see we have a similar methodology.

The trick to that is breaking things down in very small steps.

I’m thinking about stopping coloring my hair. I’m probably 40%? maybe more? gray. Is it easier (does it look better?) to let it grow out now when I’m not completely gray vs waiting longer and having a pretty serious stripe as it grows out? I’ve seen that and I don’t want to be that person. I’m assuming I would need to spend some money and start getting some highlights or color as it grows? I’ve never had professional color or highlights, I do it myself. I use a #5 color, so it’s on the darker side and the gray really shows up. It’s not going to be easy for me to go through the grow out phase after coloring it for like 25 years but I think I will like it once it’s done. And if I don’t, I can always color it again! Suggestions?

You could use temporary colour on the stripe as it comes out, or something like “just for men” to blend it? This way it may not be as evident.

Maybe start lightening the colour you use?

Your hair looks gorgeous! I see pretty grey blend highlights and those are pretty and expensive.

I also people doing temporary colour - maybe similar to current or a bit lighter? Or a colour depositing shampoo or conditioner?

Big apologies this is really an MMM question but I don’t want my pretty little head ripped apart.

What is the formula for car savings/amount of car fixy money to keep?

(I’ve been keeping 10k to fix the old car or buy new and now we are combining all our car money and buying fancy new). Probably we won’t buy the extended warranty because probably the math says I should have a car emergency fund with ??? And contribute x every month to my car bucket. The warranty was 2600 so that can start my bucket, yes? And do I invest this normally or use like a high interest savings account so it is easy to touch? Or is this invested and I use springy debt?

I feel like the MMM forum words just all buzzed around and came out in a pile of nonsense

I don’t have any formula for savings, but I think most advice says the money goes in a high yield savings account with the rest of your emergency fund. Otherwise you need to use a credit card/springy debt, but then you might be pulling money out of a down market to pay off the card. Unless you are confident you can get a 0% apr card in time to pay for whatever repairs are needed and cash flow the payment by the end of the 0% period.

I kept a new car fund in a separate savings account and would put $3-400 a month in when I could. If I didn’t I wouldn’t beat myself up over it.

high yield savings account. in TFSA if you have the space (it is better to have TFSA full of investments, but if it isn’t yet, this is a reasonable place to put it), if you don’t have the space, non-registered in the name of the person with lower taxable income.

Do you have a maintenance fund? We just spent the new car fund. We didn’t have a separate maintenance fund before, but now maybe we should?

as you know, I don’t have a car, but I think it is reasonable to expect the car won’t need work for a few months, so you can rebuild the maintenance fund from now. and you can make a decision about having both types or just one in a couple of years.

No I did the same thing because why make more buckets?

I had heard references to this song but hadn’t actually read the lyrics. That’s funnier than I realized. Thanks for the link!
