Instant pot went bankrupt, right? So is ninja the new brand for instant pots?

Eta: I see instant pots still for sale. Will they be obsolete soon?

Mine is dying slowly and I want a replacement that can also air fry.

My Spouse bought me an InstantPot off Amazon last year - it works.

Last I heard the Instant Pot company separated from the company that filed bankruptcy, and the Instant Pot company is still going strong, with no plans to stop production. Haven’t heard anything for a while though :woman_shrugging:

how would you organize this closet given the parameters: I’m not getting rid of anything and the filing cabinet need to stay there in the middle so it can be opened

Everytime I open it, I just hate it so much that I throw things in until it starts falling back at me when I open the door. do I just need more shoe storage? is it that easy? I have been annoyed by this closet since moving here 3 years ago and have been stuck on what to do about it. I need fresh eyes.

long coats are tucked the back corner. the bins at the top are miscellaneous bags and hats and knitted things that could be better organized so I can use them.

What are the things getting thrown in? That indicates it’s too hard to put away some stuff, or that the stuff doesn’t have a proper “home” at all. Are these the things that theoretically live in the bins on the shelf? Those look pretty hard to access to me. How frequently do you use things in those bins?

Can the filing cabinet go in a different location/different closet? It looks like it’s blocking off an entire corner of the closet, making it difficult to see and utilize a large portion of the closet.

And yes, it certainly looks like you could use more shoe storage (if you do truly use all of your shoes), as you don’t want to have to dig around for the pair that you want. I suspect that’s not the whole issue though.

good questions!
it’s usually shoes getting thrown in, which makes it feel like a shoe problem. all of the shoes don’t get worn regularly and I could probably move some of them to the boxes on the top shelf, since I’m not ready to let go of them. I feel like the area above the shoe rack is wasted space.

I can try to move the filing cabinet to another location, but I’m limited in places it can go.

You need a bigger shoe rack. The one you have isn’t cutting it. are there shoes there currently that can be moved to be less accessible because they are not high usage? My fancy stilettos live in boxes in the out of the way corner of my closet under all my maxi dresses. My flats and sandals are front and center next to the doorway so I can grab and put away quickly. Sneakers are in a box on a high shelf. Lol

Thoughts on adding a closed shoe storage option (maybe even more filing cabinets?) and then wall mounting the current shoe rack above that to hold the more often used pairs?

I agree that you need more shoe storage. Maybe something like this rack if it fits? Or two of the hanging ones? Hats or scarves could also probably fit in the hanging one.

It sounds like it is a shoe problem, then! I agree with more storage making sense. I’m a little torn on making the less-used shoes way less accessible. On the one hand, you definitely want the things you actually wear front and center. On the other hand, shoes do really degrade in storage, especially if they have significant cushioning that will lose its “bounce” or leather that dries out (it’s not just marketing from shoe companies - I have experienced this). If there’s a chance you will actually wear the shoes, you don’t want to make them completely inaccessible so as to remove any chance of actually wearing them.

A couple of potential strategies:

  • Store the less-used shoes in an accessible place but not front and center, like maybe at the bottom of a larger shoe rack. Try to actually use the shoes.
  • Store the less-used shoes in an inaccessible place but write the date you pack them on the box/make a note to check on them in a year. If you haven’t worn them in a year, consider letting them go.
  • If the shoes are not going to be worn again but are emotionally significant to you (like they fit an aspect of your identity that you aren’t fully ready to acknowledge is over, or they mark a significant event), pack them away as a sort of “memory box” but limit how many of them you keep in this fashion. I personally like to release these sorts of shoes with a “thank you for your service” and let them make someone else happy, but I will fully admit I am not a shoe person!

closed storage is definitely an option! I don’t think the rack I have can be wall mounted, but I like the idea of having shelves that run all the up to the wire shelf.

the hanging racks are looking like a good option! thank you!

yeah, even thinking about this for 30 minutes has made me be like “really, why are you holding on to these?” so a declutter might be in order.

People who embroider, advice sought!

I am trying to embroider these little slimes. I have had this intention for, like, months, but progress is slow and the burden to start is high.

I am using an applique for the body- these are going to be the decoration on napkins, so I don’t want it to be too fragile. But how do I make the eyes?? It’s going to be very small, just a few inches altogether. I could do the black part of the eyes as a small padded dot, but then how do I fill in the white part? Vertical satin stitches? Satin stitches sort of fanning out? Random long and short stitches until the space is filled? And I should do the black first, right?

The napkins are white so I guess I could cut a hole in the applique but that seems tricky, too.

Partner says: “I would do the black first and then fill the white with a long and short stitch.”

Thank you for bringing my question into your home! I will try it that way. Bad habit of biting off more than I can chew with handicrafts… I have made about 8 inches of a twin size blanket in like a month…

If you’re getting roller blackout curtains from Ikea for room darkening, would you preferentially get them 1" too big for the window well and mount them outsideof the part that goes in or 1" undersized and mount them inside?

For roller I’d go inside
