This has been very helpful, thank you.
I will never use it because my hands can’t handle vibrations, but I want the kids to have a useful machine that they won’t hate.

Get the battery powered Shark pet version. It’s light and convenient and although it isn’'t as fancy as a Dyson, it doesn’t cost as much as a Dyson, haha. (It works just fine.) It will probably be on sale for Black Friday. I almost never used my old corded canister vac. When G was alive still, I used the Shark daily on the highest traffic areas where there are rugs for 10 minutes and always filled the canister. Now I often do it ever other day since I don’t have a dog tracking dirt inside anymore, just 2 cats, and I still fill the canister ever other day or so, in these high traffic areas. Since I got it I feel like I was living in filth before, because DAMN. I’ve had it 3 years. I bought an extra battery so if I ever need to vacuum more than a single battery change (usually highly unlikely) I have it available. The HEPA filter should be replaced about once a year (depending on usage). The prefilter can be rinsed (I bought a new one this year).
Fingernail experts.
Delamination of free edge of nails. Is it the nail polish itself or the acetone remover causing this?
My guess is the acetone. There are no acetone nail polish removers.
Yeah. It’s a good thing to try at least!
I suspect whatever cause is drying out the nail.
I am not a nail expert, and don’t usually do polish, but I do get this peeling from time to time. Usually in the winter, and usually due to dryness.
This will happen to me even when not doing nail polish at all. I think it can happen just from regular hitting of the nail edge on things that causes micro cracks that then expand and whoops there goes a bunch of nail.
Things that would strengthen your nails would be a good thing or looking into avoiding things that weaken them.
Yeah, for me I can tell it’s nail polish related, as it’s new! Even in winter, without doing nail polish, this doesn’t happen. And I remember this from years ago when I used to do nail polish, too. I am using pretty harsh 100% acetone right now, so that’s an easy place to start adjusting.
What do I fill my husband’s Advent calendar with, that isn’t chocolate (He’s given it up in solidarity with the eldest who has quit a vice of her own), or gummy candy (Which he hates).
We usually fill them with Halloween sized chocolate bars.
(each square usually has two chocolates, one for the kid who owns the calendar and one for whichever parent they are sharing with)
Dad jokes?
Quests?
Cereal did animal facts last year. Hard candies? Werthers?
Hard candies (peppermint, etc.)
Little puzzles?
Family appropriate love notes?
Little photos of Christmases past?
Dog treats (that he gets to give to Ares or guinea pig?
IOUs - like get out of cooking tonight, etc?
Ooh - quests that lead to clues to find his one big gift?
Just picked up our passports from the office @Economista told us about! Feels good to have this crossed off the list. @Oro if you have a same day passport office nearby and you want to update your passport after your name change, highly recommend.
I think the closest is in Chicago but I’ll check!!
Also PS because it took me a lot of clicking to figure this out: you can use these appointments for a name change and/or gender marker change.
It might be worth it to do it in person just to get it DONE I’ll keep it in mind!!!
I feel like there has to be a catch here, let me know what I’m missing!
My work offers a HSA insurance plan. For my family’s scenario, the out of pocket max is $7K, and my company puts $7500 into the plan.
So in the worst case scenario where we max out our insurance, we make $500? The $ is prorated throughout the year, so if we have a very expensive January we’d have to reimburse ourselves with receipts later or get on a payment plan, which would be fine. I will do my best not to get fired early in the year.
I talked to the insurance person who is a friend and asked her a version of “what is the catch” and she didn’t share one.
Wow, I have never heard of a company putting so much in an HSA!
I don’t see a catch but I’m not really qualified
