I decided we’re just gonna go for it. I’d rather have everyone there and a little cramped than have to turn anyone away!!

DUDE I’m glad you’re here (internet joke) because I just saw this centerpiece hack and I’m wondering if you think it’d be a cute thing to do (also it will be the only thing I do. I am on baby duty while DH cooks). The only tricky part would be finding a pool noodle in Chicago in November

I actually have a box of unused battery tea lights from buy nothing too…

Last year I ended up staying with a family member the same weekend they were planning an early Thanksgiving. As I remember it, I was loosely invited to stay an extra night so I could be there for the meal and I did so. I would not have been able to have a Thanksgiving celebration at all if I had not received the invitation.

I could see that they were a bit stressed out about where to seat everyone. I sat on a sofa with a tv tray in front of me for the meal. Honestly, I was so grateful to be included that I did not mind the less than optimal seating even a tiny bit.

All this to say I’m glad you decided to go for it rather than turn anyone away.

This story made me tear up :face_holding_back_tears:

I figured I’ll probably be running around like a crazy person making sure everyone has what they need so someone can have my chair. Lol

Very doable.

Dollar tree tends to have pool noodles for this sort of project, especially with the holidays coming up and pool noodles being super useful for all sorts of crafts. My suggestion would be to get a green noodle or black one as a base so it wouldn’t be so hard to cover up with the greenery. A quick coat of paint would do it if you don’t find the right colour noodle.

Consider how much table space this sort of centerpiece would take up though. I’d assume a minimum of 8inches with leaves and floral poking out. That might end up eating too much of your tablescape, especially since it sounds like you’ll have a crowd (how delightful!)

A few thanksgivings ago, I did loose eucalyptus as a base and then scattered fake candles at varying heights and different sized pumpkins. The effect was quite nice and it was easily adjusted when we had an extra diner join us and plates had to be shifted last minute.

Does anyone else have a day where all of the sudden you get a 2” long neck hair that seems to come from nowhere? Lol

Not a problem it’s just so silly to me.

What do you guys look for in a vacuum? I’ve only had hard floors my whole adult life so I’ve just had a broom. Now I’ll have carpet. I’m hoping to get a vacuum during the black Friday sales and I’m not sure what to choose.

I used to! I specifically have a memory of being in a public place when I was 16 and my mom plucking it

But it hasn’t returned in a long time. I think maybe it was plucked enough times that it died.

It has to be light enough that I can handle/maneuver it. I like the swivel ball ones like the Dyson, but we have Bissell because we aren’t millionaires.

This is ignoring the robot vacuums which are my absolute favourites because there’s nothing like being able to say you’ve vacuumed the whole upstairs without getting off the couch.

Yes I did, then it became 2 hairs and then 3 and… I have like 10 now :joy:

I’ve got one on my shoulder! I just checked for it and it’s an inch long now. My BIL said when you’re in utero you’re covered with a bunch of downy white hairs and this is one that basically forgot to fall out and stop growing!

In Chinese my sister and I call them “white fur”, she’s got one too :joy:

The new ones are now smart enough to recognize things they should not run over, correct? Like spills, pet effluents. I think it was @Smacky who shared the tale of disassembling a roomba to clean dog stuff from all the inside parts.

We have Shark vacuums - good quality, but not Dyson prices.

Another vote for Shark. We got a corded one last black Friday and have been very happy with it, works well on carpet and hard floors and even gets all the dust out of the tiny cracks between the boards on our wood floors.

We went for the convertible which means the ergonomics are slightly different to an upright vacuum as the weight is nearer the handle. Overall I think it’s easier to use than our old dyson which is very heavy. In handheld mode it’s fanatasic for stairs, baseboards etc and the car has never been so clean. The main downside is that the dust canister is small and not the easiest to empty. Maybe if we vacuumed slightly more often we wouldn’t have to empty it after every room!

I have a similar Shark model to the one you linked. Absolutely seconding the ease of handheld mode + attachments for weird nooks and crannies, which in my approaching-century-home is essential!

Before that I had Shark Navigators, so kind of the more traditional style body. The bigger tank was nice and I always got the pet versions because cats.

I am also team Shark (the pet hair cordless one). I do feel it in my shoulder (which I thought was muscle weakness but now know is probably that and also my shitty joints) but I just switch hands back and forth. Kiddo can maneuver it just fine. It’s light enough that I pulled it out earlier to vacuum up the kitchen real quick even though I kinda hate vacuuming (it helps that it lives three feet away from the kitchen). It kept up well with dog hair when we were dealing with that.

My main complaint is that I can’t rest the canister on the edge of the counter when it’s still attached to the stick part of the vacuum, it has a slight slope to the design so it will slide off after a minute but it tricks you into thinking it’ll stay put just long enough that you move out of arms reach. It has taught me to not do that, it hasn’t been much of an inconvenience to change that behavior.
