Cooking dishes on public transit are heavy. Choose the easy route. The small loss of fancy presentation is worth the convenience.

if I were my mother I would have a package of doilies so I could put them on a paper plate and have presentation marks, less heavy, and hiding that edge pieces were gone.

I had never appreciated the strategy before.

I think tupperware looks better than doily on a paper plate. But I am a youthful snob

even if the paper plate has little blue flowers around the outside? I’m talking high 80s standards here. I could do a powdered sugar sieve thing on top (not one of the patterns, just a light dusting)

Anyone buy clothes from tuckernuck.com? There is a thing on sale I"m interested in and I’m put off by the 5 stars or 1 star reviews on trust pilot…

TIA!

So right now we have this super obnoxious pergola over our entryway, and we’d like to start getting quotes to (eventually) have it replaced with something with a roof. What kind of contractor do we even contact for something like this? Do roofers do this sort of thing? Guessing that the existing pergola would need to come out and new support added on the front sides.

Is there a community group you can ask? You could ask any contractor if that’s within their scope and whether they’d take on a small project. Not a roofer though! They put shingles and stuff on an existing roof

I’ve asked in one group already and haven’t heard anything; I’ll think about where I can ask next. But this is helpful, thank you!

That’s a solid framework, why not just plop a roof on top of it? Save you the cost and hassle of a much bigger job.

I would personally go with translucent fibreglass so you have light.

We are exploring that option too! There is a company here that can cover pergolas with snow-resistant material (I am attempting to get a quote from them but the website is janky, so we’ll see).

We just want a professional of some sort because as-is, the pergola is too low of a slope for most DIY sheeting/roofing, so it’d need to be modified. Some of the wood also seems to be rotten, but to be fair I don’t know exactly how bad it is.

I can’t quite tell how it’s attached to your house, but when we needed pergola repair around the neighborhood (my condo doesn’t have one, but some of the neighbors’ do) the work ended up going to a handyman since only a few boards needed replacing and the rest just needed refinishing. Not sure if someone like that could do the work you need rather than a specialist.

Thank you! Reached out to a handyman; we’ll see what they say. Couldn’t hurt to get them to look at it at least.

I have a lot of sitting around waiting time coming up. What kind of phone game(s) should I get to kill time?

I like Two Dots and Water Sort.

Simon’s Cat! I like both the games a lot. So much that I uninstalled them haha. I even paid a couple of dollars to remove ads before. Maybe there are even more of the games now?

Not exactly a game but Happy Color is a delightful way to pass time

Isn’t it too small on a phone? I have been using it on a tablet for years. But I often have to embiggen the image to color tiny bits.

I’ve been happy with the zoom in on my tiny phone, but it definitely might be person specific.

It definitely depends on the picture being colored! I will accept that I am old, blind, and fat-fingered /jk

Phones may have better screens (lighting?, resolution?)
