Same. I will do almost anything to avoid driving places. This is why I haven’t yet been able to stop using Amazon for things.
Yup. Stupid zoning rules being what they are, I have to drive 15 to 20 minutes to get to almost anything I need outside of a grocery store. Even the grocery store is more than 2 miles away. No way am I making more trips than I need to.
My best guess is they’re trying to get away from each other, lol. My dad runs like 5,384 errands a day. Anything to get out of the house.
Question: Are most of the trips solo trips or couples together?
This is a good idea/question. My parents actually enjoy doing things together, but they still end up with lots of outings. My dad makes random trips to Walmart just for a bag of popcorn, or my mom will drive to the nature park for a walk and half an hour later she’ll run into my dad coming from the other side of the loop because he got bored at home.
I personally only leave if I have work, an appointment, or I’m dropping off the kids We’re 10 minutes from the closest school/park/stores, and 20 minutes from the stores I ACTUALLY want to go to, so I run all of my errands at once, or over lunch when I’m already in town for work.
For the old couple I can see best- Solo from what I can tell, although admittedly I’m not so much of a creeper I usually notice to the level of detail, The family with the high schooler it’s a mix of solo and driving her.
Another idea! They have an adult friend/family member who they do caretaking for, so they’re popping over you to make sure mom takes her lunchtime meds, for example.
Ooooh that’s a good point. A lot of the Asian families I’ve met here in the neighborhood do seem to have grandma and grandpa also living in the neighborhood- I can think of 3 families I know for sure this is the case for (grandma or Auntie in each of these families often takes a young kid to the park). I’m pretty sure the across the street neighbors kids are college age IIRC, so I doubt it’s grandkid help, but elder care could fit for that family.
Thank you all for helping feed my curiosity here sometimes I hit a wall trying to imagine lives not my own.
We are also in the 0 to 1 camp and I notice our neighbors doing the same thing you’ve noticed. My mother does it. She appears to be incapable of batching errands. Such a waste of time and resources!
I go out zero to 2 times per day. And my neighbours notice- yesterday they asked where I went because the car was gone twice (and often it doesn’t move so they are making fun of me that I left the house).
Side joke - their kids said we were safe to be around during extreme Covid time because even they noticed we are always home.
Does anyone have a suggestion for lint on laundry for those who line dry (that isn’t lint rolling each individual item)?
I love line drying, but not using a dryer means I can’t really use lint balls. And it’s a front load washer so I can’t use one of those floating washing machine lint trap things. Hmmmmm
While I haven’t done this personally, I have been told that particle board is very thirsty-- it absorbs a lot of paint. As a result, I would recommend a good primer.
Prime it. That thing will suck up all your paint.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if covering the particleboard in contact paper or something like it would be a good idea first. Then prime, then paint. Or if you find contact paper in the colour/pattern you like, it could be a one step process!
Does anyone know if I can sign into my discovery plus account on my moms tv? There are some shows I think she would like. If I can do that, can we both use it at the same time if we happen to both have tv on? I can always buy it for her if not.
Yes!
With your discovery+ subscription, you can stream anytime, anywhere, on up to four devices at one time.
Anyone have a recommendation for those vacuum storage bags? Do I hold out for Space Saver or are there other brands that work just as well?
Looking to store sweaters/out of season clothing.
How long should a car wash take if I take it to a full service place that will also vacuum the inside for me? I don’t need a full detail job, I just want someone else to deal with vacuuming the carpets and seats. I have no idea if it’s a twenty minute thing or an hour or what.
Can you call and ask? Or maybe it’s on their website somewhere?
I’ve called twice, they haven’t answered.
