I can’t for the life of me remember. I think we got the internet when I was in like 10th grade? Maybe earlier. All I remember is getting emails and being on AIM a lot when I was doing homework. And using Dogpile to search for things.
I think the very first thing was Wizard of Oz collectible figurines from eBay when I was in sixth grade?
We put 2 screw hooks (heavy ones) up over the shower portion of our tub. When I drip dry clothes, I put a plastic chain across them and either hang the clothes over the chain or hang them and put the hanger hooks through the chain.
Works, can be taken down and stored.
Pretty sure it was a book from Powell’s that I needed for my dissertation. That would have been '95 or '96. I have never laid eyes on the brick and mortar store, still.
I think an actual book from Amazon. Back when it was a book store.
I don’t think it was the very first thing, but I clearly remember waiting for the fourth Harry Potter book to be delivered and thinking I chose poorly - I should have just preordered it from a physical book store so I could have picked it up at midnight instead of waiting for whenever UPS felt like dropping it off. (This was probably when midnight book releases just started being a thing for Harry Potter.) When it finally did arrive I sat down and read it cover to cover, I think I finished at like 1 or 2 in the morning.
For me, it was O-Zone’s “Number 1” album off EBay. (Um, yes, that’s the “Dragostea Din Tei/Numa Numa” album)
Oh my gosh - totally off-topic but the other night at dinner the 1-year old was sitting in her high chair and started waving/pumping her arms in perfect immitation of the “numa numa guy” youtube video. Of course we had to tell google to play that song and we did the dance and the children thought it was lots of fun
It was almost certainly a book from eBay in ~2010, when I got my first debit card after I started a Saturday job. I remember spending hours combing through to find books being sold for ridiculously cheap, it was so much fun.
yessssssss I love this
Numa Numa Guy was the best
We bought some things via DH’s company private page for employees when we bought this place. Our first wood stove was bought that way. It seemed really cool that you could just look up on a computer items the other employees had up for sale and buy it. Would have been 1992 or so?
Same company is how I first heard about “facsimilies” (faxes) being sent. Seemed miraculous!
Gay (lesbian) romance novel ebook. Felt very illicit and risky. Credit card had monthly charges for a year. Didn’t buy anything else online for a LONG time. The novel was also terrible
Me, either. It seems like this is the type of thing I would remember, but I just don’t.
it was probably when I bought a licence to upgrade from Freeagent to Agent. Probably because I wanted to set up better filtering on usenet? I probably felt like a real internet person (ie weirdo geek)?
Request–are there a couple people who wouldn’t mind doing a quick proof of a resume for me if I DM it to you?
For the record I’m not looking for a new job, but I’m supposed to be a reference for someone, and theoretically it proves that I know what I’m talking about with regards to technical skills. And it probably doesn’t hurt to have an updated resume anyway since the last time I updated it was somewhere around 2015.
Happy to look, can’t make any promises as to the utility of my help
Thank you for this little trip down memory lane
Medicated babes with ADHD, a question for you! Once you’ve found the right medication for you, how often do you need to meet with your prescriber to keep refilling your prescription?
(Posting with permission)
Based on the advice of the forum, my wife signed up for Ahead, one of those ADHD med start-ups. They did some testing with her and got her going on meds, and it’s been really helpful. She met with a NP in October-ish to get started, and then again in November-ish when she asked for a different dose. They want to have another appointment now before refilling meds, and she wants to switch providers because she doesn’t want to pay for ongoing appointments.
I was just curious if it was a norm that your prescriber has to see you every 3 months, or whatever?
Yes that is standard. Because most ADHD drugs are schedule II, the longest a doc can write a prescription for is three months (it’s actually three separate one month prescriptions, but the outcome is essentially the same). There are also laws in some states about your follow up appointments needing to be in person, not telehealth but ymmv.
Thanks! That makes total sense, I had a feeling.
Yup, what @Rhubarbsoda said. My prescriber was actually asking for 1.month appointments but I’ve not been taking the meds daily so I keep pushing it off.
