Does anyone else get incensed when you receive a package delivery after like 8pm or on the weekend? Every time this happens to me I am like JUST LET THESE WORKERS GO HOME I can wait for my stupid texturized vegetable protein or whatever.

Also, I assume this will be predominantly interstate driving? Which I find easier than city driving. If Boyfriend drives the cities, and you drive between, I think you’ll be surprised that you can manage a bigger vehicle.

YES.

My kid’s teacher often calls or texts me in the evening or on weekends. Go have time off! Everybody deserves rest and off hours.

Yes. I wish I could say ‘late is fine! Don’t make them work till ten!’

(I have Amazon Prime but really I usually don’t need my item in two days)

Omg I know.
Every now and again I’ll get a work or business-related email and see a timestamp of like Saturday at 10pm and I’m like NOOOOOOO. Birdie’s vet is NOTORIOUS for this. He’ll answer me at literally any time of the day, so I have taken to only emailing him weekday mornings so he’s more likely not to spend his after-hours emailing me (and presumably other clients).

REST PEOPLE (do as I say, not as I do…)

Geez. Were the people teaching you all this maybe a little paranoid? I mean, yes, no need to try to attract thieves but this seems a little intense. I… I never even thought to worry about all the crap in my car in the hotel parking lot while I slept. And I’ve moved a bunch of times. Just for perspective.

I’ve also moved with cats across states, more than two days in the car, and they never could be calm enough to consider eliminating while in the car.

I’m honestly not sure I can drive either? What I’m thinking of is, not quite an SUV. Roomy, but not as tall. I can’t do the taller vehicles, I feel like I don’t have control of the car at all if I’m sitting high like that.

I wonder if this is regional? In the SF Bay Area you’ll absolutely get your car broken into if you leave, like, a sweatshirt on a car seat. When my parents visited me in Oakland a few years ago, they thought it would be OK to get out of the car and put bags in the trunk where we were parked, and people will definitely break into your car if they see you do it there. It’s been a big adjustment that we can just… leave stuff in our car sometimes in Denver.

Ha, this sounds excruciating!

I mean… large city, street parking, car break-ins are really common here. It’s just second nature to me to not leave anything in a car, even if I’m at, like, a hotel in some rural area.

I think it is largely regional. My friend who lives around the corner for me got her car broken into, windows smashed, and they took a paper road map. WTF. That was literally the only thing she had in her car but apparently they just HAD to have it? Maybe their smartphone was broken so they needed paper? Who knows.

My friends in the Bay Area did the same.

Oh, it was!

But at least now I know what NOT to do!

Anyone have thoughts on where to look for vehicles for sale by individuals (US)? Both FB Marketplace and Craigslist appear to be dumpster fires these days.

Ohhhhh, just read this part. No. NONONO. Do NOT let someone see you putting stuff in your trunk!

Here I sometimes see them on Nextdoor, if you have that?

Not here where I live, and I think you can’t join ones not where you live, right?

Thanks to this conversation (and also Boyfriend having just arrived home from a 5-hour drive home), we have decided NOT to do a nonstop drive. Thank you all for helping me think this through.

I think Car Guru has these (though mostly dealers). The filtering options on Car Guru was partially broken a couple of years ago. What about CarMax or other “buy online” vendors?

I believe you have to verify your address, yes, which is why I can’t yet join the New Orleans groups for apartment hunting purposes. That sucks.

I’ve heard great things about Carvana.
