Dog!

Luigi has never gotten his hoodies stuck on anything. I’m a fan of the Top Paw brand at Petsmart for some basics plus if newpup is willing to come to the store you can see what sizing makes the most sense for it. I am a big fan of Purina Proplan food. Getting the pup used to brushing and nail care will make a huge difference for you in the future. Always happy to chat about pups!

I feed Holistic Select after some major brands were found to have melamine in their food (15ish years ago?) via some ingredient purchased from overseas. All dog foods are nutritionally sound, higher grade dog food has less filler and therefore less post-processing waste (wink, wink). I like that this food has a smaller kibble size, so nice for the littler dogs.

Amen to teeth brushing and nail trimming! Small dogs seem to get a lot of tartar in my experience.

I also like BIL-Jac treats, they have a small size which is nice for smaller dogs. They are kind of soft, so good for older dogs with fewer teeth (see notes on teeth brushing).

What’s for Thanksgiving Dinner?

We’re having chicken shepherd’s pie, green veg (not sure what yet). There’s carrots, celery, onion, peas & potatoes in the pie. And peach-caramel cobbler. The caramel is an effort to reduce the amount of sugar. I used 1/4C less than specified, added 1T vanilla paste and caramelized the sugar partially before adding the peaches. We’ll see if it works? It should. The recipe I’m following had you cooking the peaches with the sugar and water until the peaches were cooked and the sugar melted, so, basically the same, except I melted some of the sugar and got it golden before I added the peaches. That would have worked just fine, except that the peaches were frozen, so I had peach candy on the bottom of the pan. I took the peaches out, added the water the recipe called for and melted the candy then added the peaches back in. It should be fine.

We’re sick, so my folks and siblings are postponing thanksgiving for us. So today we’ll have leftover cheesy bake for lunch, and probably egg drop soup for dinner. Side of roast Brussels sprouts with feta.

We definitely plan on tooth brushing. Thank you for endorsing the Purina pro plan food. It makes me feel better sticking with that brand! I’m gonna wait until he starts getting comfortable and is trusting us and then slowly start by touching his face and giving treats then work my way up slowly to touching his mouth and his teeth and gums. I’ll do the same regarding touching his paws and working my way up to nail trims! I want to go slowly and build a trusting relationship with him.

I’m glad to hear the hoodies haven’t been a concern because I am very tempted by the cute factor!

I’m going to look into the food brand you mentioned in case he doesn’t do well with the Purina pro plan. I’ll also check out the BIL-Jac treats! Thank you.

Ham, green bean casserole, corn pudding, and pumpkin pie.

That peach cobbler sounds delicious!

Thanks. I hope so! It’s in the oven and I’m taking a break before I wash dishes and then tackle the shepherd’s pie.

I’m not using our big oven, so things have to be done one at a time.

It’s good!

Didn’t feel comfortable with the big family celebration this year, so I’m cooking it all myself. Turkey, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, fresh bread, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy and pie. Cut myself some slack and went instant mashed potatoes, stovetop stuffing and frozen pie. I expect my two young kids to eat only bread.

Turkey legs, roasted veggies, Stove Top, no-knead bread, pecan pie. I made none of it. I am pregaming with wine while it all finishes up. The turkey legs look and smell great. They were basted with honey and soy sauce.

We did brown sugar and whisky glazed ham with twice baked potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing and spinach salad. Plus rolls. So many rolls. Our guests brought over crackers and cheese and a french silk pie.

What Black Friday sales have y’all taken advantage of today?

I’m debating getting a lightweight vacuum to handle our stairs and random nooks and crannies. Our normal vacuum is great, but a bit heavy and bulky for me to handle for anything other than upright use.

I love having a corded mini vac for the stairs! I don’t remember what kind I have but this is an area where I have better luck with major brands. For carpeted stair you need either a brush of some kind or a scrubby sort of end, IME.

Little dude, who is a very fussy eater, has decided to go vegan. I love that he cares about animal rights and hate that his already very limited diet is even more restricted. I secretly hope it’s a phase.

What are your favourite extremely easy, fussy eater-friendly vegan foods? I’m making him a cookbook. Main dishes, sides, and desserts are all welcome.

This is the easiest (and one of the best!) vegan sausage recipes I’ve ever used. We were both vegetarians for a lot of years so I’ve made a ton of faux meats.

It’s such a good jumping off point for all sorts of things. Also, he can use any seasoning in it to change up the feel.

This vegan chickpea “tuna” salad is also really good and can go on sandwiches, toast, salads, etc.

That site in general has a lot of not fussy vegan recipes.
