Yep, for size we went with viewing distance and called it a day. I forget what size we got. 47” or something maybe?

Eta asked spouse. 55”. Fits an IKEA shelf and sound bar comfortably beneath it because we also like music and wanted good sound quality.

Got a TV last year at Target, it’s an LG. Been happy with it. Added bonus was that buying it with the Target circle app got us 1% back in target credit.

My Insignia tv caught fire and melted a hole in the back, so I have personally scratched that brand off my list.

Okay. Paperwork. Has anyone got any top tips for organising paperwork? Or has Lillian ever done a YouTube live on how to organise paperwork? I just moved my office back upstairs, and think I now have piles of papers, ancient and modern, in every room of the house except my bathroom and bedroom. Yep, even the kitchen. Halp! :scream_cat:

Wow! Yeah, that’s a bad, bad thing.

Would it be overwhelming to gather it all in one place? If so, I’d start with one room and

  1. Do a quick sort: Recycle, Shred, Urgent Action, File/Save, Deal with Later. Go as quickly as you can and don’t spend too much time on any one piece.
  2. As you finish the paper in that room, immediately deal with the first 3 groups. Put recycling in the bin, shred or start a dedicated shredding box, deal with the urgent action. Move the File pile and the “Deal with Later” pile to your office.
  3. Repeat with the next room.
  4. When you need a break, you can set up files and start the filing or take a stab at the Deal with Later.

I have been known to take all the paperwork from the current year (so 2021) and put it all on one box, no sorting, and literally everything else from all time into a bigger box that fits it all, no sorting.

Then when I am able, I start going through the 2021 box and sort and organize. Or sometimes I’ve just left it and finished up that box for the year as an unsorted box, then started a 2022 box. And then when I am in a mindspace able to start sorting and organizing successfully, I start only with the current year and moving forward.

It seems overly simple and broad but it’s really helped me as a starting point when most of my previous year paperwork has been an emotional minefield.

When I deal with paperwork, I out on the tv, preferably without cats or children, and make lots of labelled piles. Sometimes I’m sorting for years. Usually I need work stuff separate. Mari kondo actually has a useful guide about what to keep. It helps me to release a lot of it. But there’s still so much coming all the time

I do a preliminary sort. Three piles: throw it out, file it away, deal with it. Then I throw out the trash, put the filing stuff in a new place where I will intend to file it one day, and put the stuff that needs stuff done with it back where the original pile of paper was.
It’s a flawless system.

That’s a lot like my system.

I pretty much have a file for medical stuff and a file for house related stuff.

In January I open a file for tax related stuff that arrives in the mail and when I do the taxes in February I toss that file into a plastic bin, take out the file from 7 years before, and shred it.

I have a small basket for receipts and after I enter them into my accounting system I toss those out.

I am now living with people who have NO system at all, however, and there are paper piles. Grr.

When you were the seller of a house, did you clear out during the buyer’s inspection, or did you hang around?

We cleared out. Our seller stayed and my FIL stayed during their sales. They’re both weird jerks who think someone will steal their shit, damage things, lie, etc and think they’re entitled to the world :upside_down_face: not that I have Opinions on them or anything.

Need thoughts on when to share news of possible risk:

My nephew was just diagnosed with Flu type A. My dad was with him on Thursday and is supposed to be joining us at our house for Thanksgiving starting tomorrow. We are also supposed to have friends join us for Thanksgiving dinner with their 3 month old, 2year old and 4 year old.

At what point do I warn the friends about the risk?

I wondered if staying could be a helpful thing, like the seller could clarify stuff or answer questions in the moment. My house was purchaser from the builder so I have no experience in this.

CDC says flu symptoms can show up 1-4 days after exposure so he might not start showing till tomorrow and might be infectious before he’s symptomatic.

I wonder at what point he could take a flu swab test at a doctor’s office? Ok CDC again “Samples should be collected within the first 3-4 days of illness”, so that doesn’t sound like the timing would work since he would be exposed but not ill yet.

My SIL is 24 weeks pregnant with what will hopefully be her second child.

Do i need to throw a baby shower or is that only for first babies??

I think for second babies “sprinkles” or a “sip and see” are the more common option if anything is done. Not positive though and not sure how Covid plays.
