Summary
Sometimes I have to cake my feet in lotion and put on socks over it before bed, but it feels ick. Depending on where the texture is coming from, foot soak followed by rubbing with pumice stone can help.

+1 to what greyweld said.
Sometimes when I do a soak after lotion the skin will actually slough off. It’s gross! But then the new skin is not gritty.
I also lotion soak and sock. I highly recommend a very thick one like eucerin cream.
Not the cheapest option, but the most satisfying:

Don’t Google before and after pics if you are grossed out by peeling.
Does anyone have any experience with Frye shoes (preferably actually shoes, not boots). I’m considering getting a new-to-me pair of flats, and I’d prefer to upgrade from the $19.99 flats I got at Target a million years ago.
I honestly find completely flat shoes the most comfortable. I just got a pair of Merrel barefoot weightlifting shoes and I LOVE them. All of my other tennis shoes make my toes go numb or hurt my feet. My Target flats are legit flat as well, and they’re great, but they’re getting holes in the toes.
I’ve heard good things about the Frye brand generally, but I haven’t been able to make it to a store to try some on in person. There are a lot of secondhand options on Poshmark, and I like the style of most of them.
I’ve tried on Frye flats twice before. Ballet flat style. Both before I had a child and went extra wide toe. I found them to be narrow in the toe, even then. Especially as compared to barefoot merrels, some of my favorite shoes of all time, the toe is VERY narrow at the pinky toe.
That being said the leather quality is exceptional and their brown leather looks so so good in person.
Ooh, good to know. The merrels probably have a little more room than I need, but they’re so comfy. I should probably try to find something else, then.
ETA - I guess I’ll try to find a store where I can actually put some on my feet They have some really cute styles and interesting colors.
Being leather, I think you can get them stretched? But I will never put that level of effort in Rothys are also narrow in the toe, FYI, though otherwise they’re great shoes- they’re my SILs favorites.
I bought a pair of Frye ballet flats in 2015ish, and they held up for years through lots of abuse. 10/10 highly recommend. As far as I know I have average width feet and I found the width to be fine, so they may vary depending on the style.
Oh depending on the look you’re going for, keens has some Mary Jane style flats that I find very comfy and have no heel drop. They’re a bit more, keens looking though, lol.
Haha. I live in Colorado, Keens-looking isn’t a big problem
Anecdote - My mom wore her Keen sandals when visiting family back in Wisconson, and her sisters were like “…um, Jeanie, what are you wearing on your feet? Those are the ugliest shoes I’ve ever seen!”. My mom was unbothered, because Keens are awesome.
In that case, here are some of the most comfortable shoes I own: KEEN Women’s Sienna MJ Canvas Shoe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZFM6S7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PB9XDZ8KSZFPQQ3B5NK1?psc=1
Now I’m just down a Keen rabbit hole on Poshmark…
Oh, how interesting, I also have a shoe-related question.
I’m shopping on eBay for boots and my current hiking boots are European sized 39, but I have seen a few postings with “women’s” size 7, even some of that actually read “women’s” on the tag and then the European conversion is 39, which does not seem correct.
In “women’s” shoes I wear an 8/8.5
European 39
“Men’s” 7
What am I missing? To my knowledge, a European 39 did not translate to a “women’s”
7… but more like an eight or an 8 1/2.
Photos to sort of explain what I’m talking about. You can even see the one says “women’s” on the tag, but then translates a women’s 7 to 8 European 39…
I think they’re just screwing up the market of the US boot- when it’s a US7 and a 39, then it’s a men’s shoe. So 8.5 Womens equivalent roughly.
Bonus points, you’re the same size shoe as both me and my husband I’ve had this same struggle.
ETA and I don’t just mean the listing people. Shoe companies seem to screw this up too between markets. It’s annoying AF. I’ve run into it too, even in new shoes. Especially hunting boots.
Can I suggest rothys as another totally flat flat on that I love? Mine have held up for years now of constant wear and they’re machine washable. In the past, flats wore out within a few months for me.
Things to replace to improve your life?
If your household finances got a good raise and your partner informed you that you should consider replacing some things that annoy you/get things to improve your life, what would you replace?
So far on my list are the two items that precipitated the conversation: a bed frame that squeaks so bad it wakes me up when I turn over at night, and food storage containers that nest into each other so they don’t fall all over the place if they’re stacked.
I just bought several things to free up counter space in my kitchen: mounted paper towel holder, a knife block that goes inside a drawer, and replacement parts for the fridge water so we can put away the Brita.
Other ideas: reframing art if it needs it, keypad front/back door locks (so much easier with a kid on a hip!), Bathroom storage organization? (Something wall mounted for you toilet brush dilemma? )
I assume you already have this since you’re an active person in the PNW, but good outerwear greatly improves my life. Like high end rain jackets and ski jackets/pants.
In the kitchen: knives and pots and pans.
