I absolutely know this does not count nor answer your question, but I have weird dreams often about the Yonanas Banana ice cream machine infomercials.
^ apparently I could not resist sharing that anecdote about my weird dream life.

Maybe try a yonanas machine…?

I have a Cuisinart that I have had for a long time (15 years?) that I really like and go through phases that I use a lot. I’ve done gelato and ice cream with it (I like to use a creme anglaise base for most ice creams) and I think it might be this one, because I’ll usually get 2.5 pints out of a batch:

I’m sure I got it on sale, probably at Bed Bath & Beyond. For me it was definitely worth it, and very easy. The only downside (and this might be true of all home-style (ie non-commercial-grade models) is that the insert must be frozen to use, which means you can only do one batch at a time (unless you buy extra inserts) and they must be frozen (which means it lives in my freezer). This is only a problem if you have really limited freezer space, which I found to be not a problem at all. A few years ago I went through a phase when I started doing all kinds of different things (cucumber, sorrel-mint are the two I remember) which was fun. I like my mocha recipe better than anything I can buy in stores.

It has definitely been worth it for me.

A friend is celebrating a milestone this weekend and I wanted to get her some booze to celebrate. I asked her what she liked and she said, either a whiskey that I think is really expensive and we’re not close enough for me to spend that much on her, or “any beer except a hoppy IPA.”

What does the latter mean - I am not much of a beer drinker, is it enough to get something that doesn’t say IPA on the label?

Since she likes whiskey, it’s good odds she likes a bold beer like a porter or lager. But with it being summer, it could also be fun to get something summery, like a Hefeweizen or a blonde. For non hoppy beer, I like to look at the IBU (the measure of bitterness/happiness basically) and keep it below 30.

But also paging @brute cuz he’s a beer guru.

Some people in your region could probably give you specific recommendations.

Pretty good rule of thumb there. Only time you’d want to go much over that is if it’s really high ABV or very dark and malty (the bitterness and the residual malt sweetness sort of cancel each other out)

My first reaction is to fuck with them because I don’t believe they like “anything but IPA”. Grab a 3 Floyds Deesko. Watch their face implode. Stuff is sour enough to clean copper. (I love it.)

Continuing with 3 Floyds since they’re almost local to you, Rober the Bruce is a great choice. Most of their barrel aged stuff is great too but… well at that point you’re likely going to spend less on the whisky!

Goose island has some solid stuff. Sure, AB owns them now, but they still make good beer.

A hefe is pretty much always a safe choice. Tell them to mix with with some orange juice for brunch.

I’ve never liked the results enough to use it more than every so often.

We use ours a lot during the summer. It’s a … some brand or another. I’ll take a look next time I’m in the basement but it was like $40. It took a little recipe tweaking occasionally, but it works really, really well.

This happened.

What can I say.:rofl: The price was right. $4.50 from the thrift store.

I approve of your life choices.

Thanks! To be fair I think she said “most beer” and not “any beer”. I don’t think I want to give her the Malort of beers or anything!

Oh goodness Malort! Yeah, that stuff is something else

I have a cuisinart and I like it. But we don’t make ice cream very often because it takes a whole day to make.

I have actually never tried it but it is totally a Chicago Thing now.

If I make an Amazon Wishlist and someone buys something on the list from the link I sent them… does it just automatically get shipped to my default address on file?

Sorry! I know this is a pretty basic question, but I really don’t use Amazon, so I want to make sure. <3

Not entirely sure, but I went and tested it on a list from a friend, and got this message at checkout which makes me believe you have to give some sort of special permission to use your address if it’s a third-party merchant but not if it’s Amazon itself.

But I don’t know how to give the permission, sorry.

I know this was a few days ago, so maybe you’ve moved on, but there’s an IG account called dog meets baby that’s really great and I’ve learned a lot as a dog owner that has helped me be better with both my dog and my baby and feel more confident and safe with both. Perhaps especially since she’s pregnant, you could just mention that someone told you about this great account and thought she might be interested.

This plant had some great growth in the few days after I brought it home then started to decline. I bottom watered it (tap water) once and the soil is still moist. Too much/not enough sun and/or water? I’m so sick of killing literally all plants but also I don’t think this came with a care card or I lost it.

Root bound or wet feet is my guess.
