Bitcoin and other blockchain currencies are basically gambling/purely speculative investment so while I have read a lot about them, it’s not something I personally want to put money into. But some people might like having a certain amount of $ in them, like how some people who know stock picking isn’t great still like having a certain % of their money in individual stocks.

One project I’m interested in pursuing next year is tracking nature observations. Has anyone here done this, and if you have, do you have recommended formats for it? In particular, recommended bujo formats?

Hi! This is part of my spiritual practice  I’m lightly witchy, and this is my jam. Some years, all I can manage is noting it in my head (cough, this year). Some years I use Evernote. Some years I just put it in my normal day planner. I roughly follow the wheel of the year format. But I like to note specific things I notice. So like, the first Junco I see in winter. Or the first blooming tree I see in spring. I like to notice when I see the first lamb, and the first wheat harvest. I pay particular attention to things that are associated with the goddess Brigid, since she’s significant to me/my family.

Ummm not sure if that answers your question like, at all. But it’s not very well organized. But I still enjoy doing it, and it really helps me notice things in the world around me.

Lol yep, this is also for my spiritual practice. Druid over here (and particularly fond of Manannan). I’ve been doing this for a while just in my head – I know when the roses and wisteria bloom, I know when the mergansers arrive and leave, etc. But I want to dig deep this year and really, really get to know my area, and be able to know the ranges when things start and end year-over-year.

And yes, it answers my question! I like seeing the different ways people approach this.

I’ve recently branched out to using eBird and iNaturalist to report on things I see too. I love the thought that my observations, especially of birds, help research.

It’s fun, but now that the easy mining days are over, not a lot of point to it unless you’re working with a vendor that gives you a discount for using it.

It probably won’t surprise you at all that one of these guys has all of his money in Tesla stock

I know there are a lot of Planner People on this forum. I want to try a planner next year because I find myself more and more busy as well as more and more absentminded these days. I don’t want to planner, but I think I need it to get my life under control. I really like these but they are so expensive. Are they worth the $$$ and/or are there cheaper options that are similarly customizable?

If you like seeing year to year changes, I’d highly recommend a digital journal of some kind that gives you an “on this day” reminder. I used to use my Facebook memories for this. But there’s apps like Day One, Journey, etc.

Seeing my memories is of the only reasons I still go on FB. Alchemist has actually been making it a project to take all of her favorite memories and backdating them as past DayOne entries.

Good point, I suppose this is something I do as well. I take photos of stuff even if I just want to notice it, like the bud on a tree. And I use Google photos, and they show me this day 1, 2, 3 etc years ago. So I frequently look at those. I like this too for storms!

Doesn’t even have to be photos, just notes.

Are you looking at buying/selling or mining? The first is generally just speculation as noted above and not something I’m interested in so I can’t give you any details, but we had some fun with mining early. Unfortunately at this point the setup really isn’t worth the return unless your power is free, and even then you’d probably be cutting it close. I’ve got a few coworkers who are still mining other cryptocurrencies, erethreum and something else I can’t think of the name of, and are still making a little profit (and we’re talking people with spreadsheets tracking costs down to the penny so they know when they’re making vs losing money), but personally I have no plans to get back in.

I guess this is why there’s so many breaches involving the use of cloud systems to do the mining. Free massive compute is the new holy grail.

@Bracken_Joy @diapasoun the First Day of Spring for me is when my first plum bloom opens and the cardinals start yelling at me when I’m outside

Sweet box shrubs blooming means spring is just around the corner for me. Tree buds and sweet smelling air are spring. Jasmine blooming means summer.:heart::heart:

Have you looked into bullet journalling? (The minimal, lets make some bullet points, type, rather than the sort which involves lots of elaborate calligraphy :stuck_out_tongue: There’s a good intro here: Thorough Guide to the Bullet Journal System — Tiny Ray of Sunshine) . If you think you need some structure, but want the flexibility to structure it as you need to, I’ve found it pretty helpful. Plus you can use literally any notebook.

I’m so jealous you live somewhere with ramps.
