I personally would probably get a “starter” machine from either Brother or Singer under $100. Both brands have starter models that should be easy to resell if I discovered I was using it more than I’d anticipated and needed to upgrade.
My own machine is nothing fancy but it’s worked great for my needs, mostly clothing/costumes/linens, for 25+ years. It does have zigzag and button stitch, both of which I’ve used plenty
Has anyone used an electronic fax service before? The idea of driving to a copy shop and shelling out $1.00 per page to transmit a low res copy of a document in an unsecure way bothers me today. But I do need to fax something to a doctors office because we all know fax is the best way to transmit medical info…
I’ve used two through work. No idea what they cost, I assume my work place has set up a deal with them. I email [##########] at faxmaker dot com or at rcfax dot com. Faxmaker has been fine and is good about sending a confirm if it did or did not go through, I haven’t used rcfax much yet. For faxmaker I do know the email has to be JUST the fax as a pdf attachment, no email body, no subject line.
I have but it’s been years. All my medical providers accept scans emailed to them (some even require I send through MyChart due to HIPAA), might be worth asking?
In this case, it’s for my dead father-in-laws medical records, so sending the request form, death cert, and other docs. We asked about other options, but it’s just fax or driving into Philly to go to the records dept for that system.
Is there a correct material to like, tape the edges of a curtain to the wall so less light leaks out? I feel like some kind of double sided something or other might work.
We have someone come clean every two weeks. The dog knows and likes her, but we crate him when she comes so he’ll be out of her hair. He is older and fine with napping in his crate while she’s at our house.
When my cat was still alive I would close him in the room with his food and litterbox and just clean that room myself. He was NOT friendly to strangers so I didn’t feel comfortable leaving him out. Most cats would probably just sleep under a bed or something but he would go on the offensive toward strangers.
Regarding cleaners, I haven’t used one yet, but I asked for pet friendly referrals from my dog walker, which probably wouldn’t work for you, haha.
I wanted to make sure I had names for people who were ok around dogs (especially very frail deaf half blind elderly dogs) and weren’t going to use products that would be unsafe for my pets to lick.
I’m working on an event for kids with disabilities and need to get raffle items contributed. What kind of businesses should I hit up with requests? We’ve already got some gift cards from restaurant chains and the contribution of a gift basket from Fresh Market (like Whole Foods but not). What else?
Just did my monthly charity donation to this (thank you for asking the question @Bracken_Joy ! )
Planned Parenthood is also getting triple matched donations through the end of the year (aka in a couple days) so I did an early birthday gift to my mom by donating to them as well.
Clothing stores for gift cards or small clothing items, like scarves, hats, etc.? Bookstores? Maybe a cooking store like WIlliams Sonoma or Sur la Table – they could give a gift card and something small like spices or a small cooking tool. I bet a Starbucks giftcard with maybe some beans and a mug would go over well. Any local breweries? They could give gift cards and glasses/other merch with their logos on it. Gift card to a place like REI or Eastern Mountain Sports or something like that with small related objects from the store. A sports place like Dick’s or Nike or one of those for the sports fan. Any local sports teams? Tickets to their events would probably be a hit.
I do think big businesses are more likely to have the budget for this kind of stuff than small independent businesses, but it doesn’t hurt to ask! When I worked at a small independent place we’d give out gift cards worth $50-100 for this sort of thing.
