Is anyone here interested in doing a/some Run-Bets with me this winter?

It’s an app where you bet $ (usually like $20-40) that you will complete an assigned running schedule for a certain period of time (usually 3-5 weeks) alongside others. When folks don’t complete their runs they lose their bet and it goes into the big pot to split between everyone who completes everything at the end.

I have found it fun and motivating. OK, maybe not fun but I’ve definitely made money every time.

  • please note, I only sign up for the slowest groups because I’m a slow runner

I would, but I only run if something is chasing me.

I’m not a jogger/runner but my friend has been doing the step bet version for a while and she has so much fun!

Even then, I don’t typically run for long…

I’d be keen! Is there any speed requirement? I’m a slow runner at the best of times but could really do with some prodding to get exercise through the winter and external commitment always helps me

The slowest challenges they have are… I believe 18mph. I always choose those or the 15/12 ones. One time I twisted my ankle unrelatedly at the gym and determined not to lose my money I was able to walk at those paces no problem.

Interested? I’d love to have a buddy within the challenge(s)!!

18mph?? I’m assuming that’s not an average speed because… that’s exceedingly fast :stuck_out_tongue:
I think I need to do a little research to understand what I’d be letting myself in for first but I am potentially keen! Will read up and let you know by the end of the weekend?

I assume 18mph is intended to be 18 minute miles?

Oh, ok. Yeah that’s more doable!

@diapasoun THANK YOU for the correction. I was meaning to type MPM, not MPH. Need more coffee

Haha I do this allllllllll the time. You should see me proofing my emails at work.

Fuzzy crocs order was cancelled by store :woman_shrugging:. Reefs were just okay. But the Hokas are excellent. I find the “recovery shoe” slightly less ugly than “recovery slide”, and is warmer for chilly floors.

@rural I think you wanted to know how this experiment turned out?

Thanks! I have a pair at the post office waiting for pickup from yet another brand, but I forget what. I’ll report when I pick up, but if they suck, trying hokas.

Is there already a thread #onhere about home buying, especially for total novices? I did a search but might not have chosen helpful phrases, and I feel like this is a topic that pops up in particular journals a lot so it can be hard to find a dedicated thread if there is one.

I am probably a couple years off from actually doing this, but I do keep hearing that years ahead is when you should start kind of actively planning and thinking, and I am in omg where do I even start territory!

Hokas are super comfy! Too squishy as a running shoe for me most of the time but I love them for recovery and for walks on sore feet days.

There is not one I am aware of. Start it!

I  Hokas. I wear the recovery shoes at home, and running shoes when I’m out in public…these shoes have changed my life! My feet used to hurt so much, and now I rarely have a painful day, even after long hikes. The recovery slides are like…the ugliest shoes ever, but I still wear them out in public occasionally haha.

Ooh, maybe I’ll give them a try. My local shoe store just started carrying a couple of them

I highly recommend the recovery slides, and I personally love the Speedgoat trail shoes, but I have a narrow foot and they have a nice narrow heel cup, with plenty of room still in the toe box.
