Oh, they are definitely not as heavily fragranced as Garnier! It’s noticeable to me but very light (I typically buy unscented everything including plain tallow soap). I don’t tolerate synthetic fragrance at all.
Good to know! I’ll probably give it a shot soon then even though the price seems high to me.
I don’t know how often you use shampoo, but I bought my bar two years ago and still have about an inch left with once weekly use.
Yeah, I know in absolute dollars it’s peanuts, even if all 5 of us switch to it, just the relative price increase.
So far I’m really enjoying my Ethique bar shampoo and conditioner. I asked about bar shampoo over in the Reducing Household waste thread, and a lot of people from Australia recommended them
Also seconding this. I go through bar shampoo very very slowly compared to a bottle. Even when I had long hair, a single bar lasted at least 6 months, and up to a year, with 1-2 showers a week.
I got my shampoo bar from someone local who makes it. Local people who make them are everywhere. Check out stay with the location settings?
I don’t have a specific book recommendation in addition to those mentioned above, but you might also want to explore the concept of restorative justice if you haven’t already. It’s something I’ve mostly encountered through briefer articles and podcast episodes but it’s a compelling model for replacing punitive justice systems IMO. The Unladylike podcast did a two part series, “how to abolish prison like a feminist” and “how to do #metoo without prison” which are the most recent I’ve explored on the topic — part 2 is especially relevant.
I’ve been buying from Chagrin Valley.
Only complaint is some of them seem to strip hair dye.
Anyone know a good place to buy high quality body jewelry? I’m looking to switch out my conch but I’m not willing to spend $150 on a plain hoop.
This may not be applicable to you, but the best luck I’ve had finding nice quality jewelry like that has been at pawn shops. I have a pair of plain gold hoops I wear every day that I got from the pawn shop.
ETA sorry I missed the body part. That is likely harder to find sorry!
Perhaps follow a quality shop on a mailing list and see if a big sale or clearance comes up?
Yeah, I probably won’t be able to find what I need at a pawn shop… but I’ll keep that in mind for future jewelry needs!
I asked on discord as well but I figured I’d put it out here as well. My good friend and photographer is doing a few months of traveling starting in Portland in January. She was hoping to book some shoots to make a little income. Anyone have any recs of places/people to reach out to? She does everything from portrait to product photography and is truly amazing. She’s been doing a lot of fitness photos recently, her portfolio is pretty impressive.
Our KitchenAid food processor blade has gone missing. Are blades from all model years compatible with each other? This one is pretty old and the websites claim the replacement has been discontinued.
Moving to Slack for the first time and wondering if you all have tips and tricks, particularly around calendars/due date reminders? The group primarily uses google drive and google calendar- so any recommendations for effective ways to incorporate those apps in are also appreciated.
Anyone have a favorite cornbread recipe? Ideally one using weights because I’ll be grinding fresh cornmeal. Does not need to be gluten free or vegan
Ooh, me! I am influenced by the fact that I grew up putting syrup on my cornbread, so I DEFINITELY prefer it sweeter and moister than most recipes I’ve tried.
What temperature do you use for baking homemade pizza? And do you pre-bake the crust slightly before adding toppings?
500 degrees for 6 min on a heated pizza stone. We shut the oven off and open the door for 2 minutes and let it sit before pulling it out.
Pizza is complete when it goes in.
I blind bake my crust for a bit while I slice and prep my toppings, maybe 5/10 minutes. I do like a thicker crust though and my toppings generally don’t need to do more than heat up and melt so the crust wouldn’t be in ter terribly long otherwise.
Edited to add: I usually bake it at around 400.
