I made a sizeable purchase online and prior to delivery/installation they want me to email a picture of my driver’s license to confirm I’m me on the credit card. I’m not wild about emailing a picture of my driver’s license, but am I being overly paranoid? I can’t think of another way to get around that.
That seems really weird.
Is it a reputable company? I have never heard of doing that. That’s very weird.
I’ve never been asked that before
That doesn’t prove anything though, just that you happen to have in your possession ID and a card with matching names. It doesn’t mean the name belongs to you.
Are they super upfront anywhere on their website about this practice and why they do it?
The most I’d be willing to do is offer to show them ID in person at the time of installation.
Or ask them for photos of themselves holding their own IDs and credit cards with visible numbers
At the very least cover your private info. They don’t need your birthdate.
Or just say no.
Oh for sure. If you were going to send them anything, I’d actually cover up your ID number, your face, your birthdate, your address, literally everything except the state and your name.
Yeah, I’d be saying no and reminding them I can always do a chargeback if they don’t like it. I would offer to show ID upon delivery, but they don’t get a copy.
I’d be so tempted to do this if they weren’t the only provider in this part of the state.
I’ll email back to say I’ll show it upon delivery. Then the ball will be in their court.
Where do you go to look for quality basics in clothing? I’m specifically leaning more to men’s casual wear. I would like a zipup hoodie or two, and maybe a pullover. I don’t enjoy branding or extra “features” or design elements. I want pieces that will last the next ten years, not two, with normal wear and regular washing.
@Illathrael
I’ve always heard good things about Duluth Trading Co in terms of durability, but they’re pricey.
They’re also a PITA to deal with unless there’s a store nearby. My partner went the rounds of ordering, sending back, ordering again, etc. two years ago.
We do have one in Portland, I’ll keep them in mind for Post Pandemic.
Costco has great quality for the price.
Target is probably my next favorite
It’s really hard to avoid brand logos on active wear
Edit: noticed the 10 year requirement. Hmm, not sure about that level of durability but also my body has changed so much this past decade I don’t have anything I’ve fit in for that long
The REI store brand has held up really well for me - I wear the pants maybe 5 days a week all winter and spring and am not careful about scraping on rocks or in dirt or bike grease. They still look new after 3-4 years. My shopping strategy was figuring out my size and the style I wanted then watching the garage sale section (I think now they have an online used section instead) and outlet/clearance sales so I paid around $40 for pants and $30 for merino long sleeve base layer top. I’ve also gotten really lucky at holding out and spotting deep sales on Patagonia and Columbia items online and in REI, which both have lifetime guarantees and small logos (I have a Columbia jacket that about 20 years old, worn with no care whatsoever, and looks/feels new except for a few cat claw holes; Patagonia labels are pretty easy to remove).
I consider REI absolute rubbish at inclusivity though (even though they’re better than a lot of other outdoor retailers) so that may be a non-starter for you to begin with.
I’m only 2 years into owning an American Giant hoodie but it is showing zero signs of wear so far and long-term durability is their schtick.
I have never heard of them and am having way too much fun reading their site right now - thank you for sharing them!
I was getting excited but no plus sizes
I didn’t click into any products, just clicked around enjoying their marketing/brand identity. Bummer!
Men’s XXL fits me in some things, not others, but I wouldn’t spend big $ on it even if it did until I know where my body decides to stabilize.
- Duluth - follow up Post Pandemic
- Costco - no membership, but could go with MIL or sibs Post Pandemic
- Target - I’ll browse!
- REI - I’ll browse!
- American Giant - adding to browse list!
Sizing: I definitely prefer inclusive sizing, but I am fortunate that most mensware L and XL will fit.
