I don’t like the idea of giving google more info about me, but they probably already have it.

I do

My bank account itself isn’t linked and the credit card is a virtual number (as in my credit card company provides a virtual number so Google pay does not have the actual number) so to me it’s probably more secure than PayPal linked to my checking account

I’ve also heard Google Pay/Apple Pay are more secure in the sense that they aren’t affected by credit card skimmers, too

Me too! My previous phone didn’t have the ability to use it but I haven’t had a card number compromised since I started, where typically it’s been about one every other year.

Yes, though my card itself now supports tap so I’m using that even more (it’s faster and less error prone than going thru the phone). I carry 1 card, license, and insurance card in a stick-on wallet on the back of my phone.

My main credit card is tap to pay so I’ve never set up any phone stuff, and only some of the places I shop even reliably take the tap to pay versus inserting.

I use Apple Pay and it creates a fake card number every time I use it which makes it nice because even if someone gets the number it used in a transaction they aren’t getting my actual number. So I use it anytime I can. I don’t love giving them the personal info, but in this case the convenience is worth it to me. Plus Apple already has all my info anyway if I’m realistic.

Yeah, Canadian banking practices are way ahead of America’s. When I lived in Iowa in 2000 I was so baffled that everyone was paying for everything with cheques. Like, pieces of paper. I couldn’t use my debit card most places. Every time I’ve been to the states I’ve been amused and appalled by the archaic payment options.

I looked it up once. Canada adopts new banking/ payment tech easily because we have only a few banks. (and tons of credit unions, but they act as a unit in most ways)
America has tons and tons of banks and each adopts tech at their own pace.
I can’t explain why credit cards all became tap overnight several years ago here and are still mostly not there. @anomalily, care to shed some light?

About half are tap here now, but not all the payment portals are updated.

Tap limits are set by the retailer you shop at.

What is my town considered if there are about 25,000 full time residents? I keep saying smallish town, but is that right? There are also about 20,000 students when university is in session, so I have no idea how to figure that either.

Some people specifically call those “college towns”. In my state, that could be classified as a town, village, or city depending on the type of government it had.

Yes please. Not sure I’ll have time to do them. But want to see if I can.

My husband does.

Large town or small city. But I side with the rabbit- College Town is it’s own thing.

Are you talking about:

  1. How to change your badge-title-thing near your name
  2. How to get a specific type of badge?

For the first, you go into your profile settings and select from your badges.

For the second, it’s a combo of getting them from challenges and/or asking Lily.

But college town can be the 30k total full time and students in my moms town up to the 90k in the one an hour from me. Seems like a very broad definition?

ETA: google says “welcome to the city of”… but they must be including the students
