Ohhhh I like this. Maybe I will try this.
Is this true for PayPal also? I think you can pay individuals via PayPal, is there a reason Venmo is better*?
*Yes, I think they are owned by the same company.
A friend’s church community uses the social feature of Venmo - kind of like prayer requests during services, things like “thanks J for bringing donuts today! $5” “$10 for grocery delivery for the M family- we’re thinking of you”
Paypal has no social media feature thingy – your payments are private.
Venmo is not any better than Paypal (and imo worse because of the default security settings). However, when people keep wanting to send you money via Venmo, eventually you get the fucking thing. Ugh I hate Venmo.
Third party/VOIP phones can’t use Venmo so that gets me out of it
Oh shit really? That’s awesome. Super plus for VOIP/third party phones.
Yep, because my phone number is not the carrier’s number assigned to my phone. Venmo requires a valid phone number i.e. the carrier number.
It also means I never get spam calls when I get a new phone.
A whole new world has opened before my eyes…
I have Republic Wireless. Is that’s why my phone number will not be accepted as valid when I try to set up a venmo account? I contacted their customer support, and they told me that their third-party verifier says that my phone number is a VoIP number.
Did you all see that the chief carrot and his daughter are both shilling for Goya now? I mean… not like there’s anything else important to do in a pandemic or anything.
Yep! ETA - I should say Yep, that is my understanding after looking into it (I also have Republic and have never had a contract phone).
Same. I actually have a savings account linked through CapitalOne (I still need to get around to switching to Ally…) and there’s no minimum so I keep $50 in it and just transfer what I need before I venmo. If there ever was a hack and they got my money, it wouldn’t be very much.
I have Republic Wireless and Venmo
There’s also an issue if you want to use a joint card and someone else is already on Venmo with that card. H and I only have one credit card and we’re joint on it. I connected it to my Venmo but it won’t let him create an account on the same card number. It’s annoying because he uses it way more than me to send coworkers $5 for whatever office thing they’re collecting money for so I always have to do it for him. If I had known I would have just set it up for him since I basically only use Venmo to make little bro pay me for his share of gifts for our parents and to tip my hair stylist once a quarter back when hair cuts were a thing.
I transferred my Google voice number to Republic a year-and-a-half ago. I assumed that was the problem, and told Venmo it is probably an out-of-date record being referenced, but they said that there is nothing they can do about it.
Whaaaaaat?!?!
Maybe I should try again. Venmo seems a lot easier to use on the fly than PayPal for a lot of my friends
I have been using venmo to tip service folk for the past couple of years. It is awesome. No carrying cash, just scan their QR code and pay whatever I want. Plus it keeps a record of my payments so I can submit for tip reimbursement at work as needed.
I am SO MAD that I have to find a new brand of beans now. It’s such a petty fucking thing to turn political, but they ruin everything.
I had this EXACT thought too
I’m good on seasonings because I either buy Badia or import my own when I visit Brazil, but the black beans? Urgh, it’s going to take so much more work. Why must Trump continue to attack the Latin community in this manner, hasn’t he done enough??
One of our good knives split. Suggestions for a replacement? Full disclosure we will totally put this in the dishwasher. I know it’s bad for knives but I also hate washing dishes. This knife made it twelve years. I wonder if it could have lasted forever if we took proper care of it.
Second question, does anyone know of mail away knife sharpening? Need to get our printer working first for shipping labels though.
