In general you look pretty good here. Do you have a way to do pull-downs or chin-ups? The pulling in the vertical plane will help a lot with benching and over head pressing. Even if you just toss a resistance band over something, that give you a lot of great work.
Ooh, thanks for mentioning that. I will try to think of how I could rig up a resistance band for a pull-down. I am way far away from chin-ups.
Unrelated question:
Anyone have a good brand/online source for buying matcha?
I bought some ages ago but I think it’s pretty low quality. It’s really bitter and not a strong green color. Part of this might be that it’s old?
Anyhow. I like the ritual of a cup of it in the morning and am tempted to upgrade to not “old mediocre matcha in the cupboard”.
So, I’m thinking about how to rig up a resistance band for pull-downs. My gym is in my basement with 7’ ceilings. The walls are thin material, not sheetrock, but like bead board? And the wall studs are 1x2 instead of 2x4 (in front of cement foundation), so I don’t feel like they’re very sturdy. I’m afraid if I tried to put in an anchor for the band that I’d pull it out. There are no doors, except exterior doors (which might be a good option if I closed the door on the band??).
The one thing I could use is the heavy wire utility rack that holds all of my weight plates and kettles. It probably has 300-500 lbs on it. If I put the resistance band around the top shelf and then knelt, I think I could get a good range of motion. BUT, I’m lacking some knowledge of physics here. What are the chances that I would pull the shelf over? Is the 300-500 lbs. a big enough counter weight to allow for me to pull on the top of the shelf?
I dunno if you have the ceiling height, but what about band-assisted chin ups for now? The band could go around the top of the bar/rack and below your feet, so no drilling.
I mean, depending on how fancy you want to go, I’ve really liked this brand: https://encha.com/products/encha-ceremonial-grade
(PS not an expert in any way, but it’s tasty. And lasts a while, since you don’t need as much of the good stuff)
Good question. It’s probably good enough, but still makes me nervous. Do you have any support poles in the basement? You could always look a band around one of those, bend 90 degrees from the waist, and pull that way.
On the utility shelf, if you were to pull against the longer axis, it’s probably safer than the shorter part, but I’d probably start by closing the band in an exterior door and see if that works.
I don’t have a chin-up bar or weight rack (my bar is on the floor when not in use). And I’m not ready for chin-ups. I gained a lot of weight while sick and chin-ups are a long ways away.
Thanks, I’ll experiment with several of these ideas.
Should I DIY carpet tear-out and laminate floor installation or should I just suck up the cost and hire it out?
I need to do:
- A hallway
- 2 square bedrooms
- 2 rooms with slightly more complicated shapes
- A total of… I would guess 800ish sqft? Could be more. I need to measure precisely.
I’d likely do the tear out myself but hire out the installation unless there was a deal where it was cheaper to have them do both.
Oooh thats very pricey. But also looks good. HAHA. Life is full of hard choices.
Yeah fancy tea is my major splurge, but I totally get it might not be for everyone
Does anyone know of any short (30-45min) fiction podcssts?)
I think Levar Burton Reads are usually under 45 minutes.
Reading rainbow??,
Short fiction for adults, usually with some sort of sci fi/speculative fiction focus!
Yes yes. Adults like me who he read to previously on reading rainbow.
Take a look it’s in a book
This day of learning about adult reading rainbow is the best smacky day ever
I like that he does a short blurb before the book to set it up, then afterwards talks about it a little bit and the feelings it evoked in him but he also does not ramble on for an hour like I probably would.
I think tvo or PBS only gave him a few minutes to explain our feelings to us when we were little, so he had practice
