I know this can be googled, but I trust people here to know about decent tasting food.

Can I roast broccoli and cauliflower from frozen? Thaw it first, maybe? I have a bag of frozen florets but roasted is the best way to eat it, obvs.

I’m guessing fractionated coconut oil designed for skin use isn’t as much a problem, either.

@HaH I just realized I have no idea! I apparently have only ever steam-sauteed from frozen! Now I’m curious.

Hmm - thawing and frying in a nice hot pan might get me the effect I want…

I would love the recipe for your body wash! Also, what do you store it in?

Oh, yes. I’m eating some right now in fact. Toss the still frozen broccoli with a little bit of oil and whatever spices you want, spread in a single layer on a baking sheet, roast at 425 to 450 for 20 minutes, check, roast five more minutes if it’s not brown enough to suit you, eat.

Also works with Frozen green beans andBrussels sprouts (with the sprouts, take them out and slice after the first ten minutes, then put them back in).

@katscratch I just use coconut oil in a jar from Trader Joe’s. But I do get the finely processed one since it’s smoother.

@HaH I roast from frozen because I never have time for thawing. I usually toss in olive oil and shove in the oven, turns out just fine.

@AllHat my recipe is: 2/3 cup Castile soap, 1/4 cup honey, 30 drops tea tree oil, 15 drops eucalyptus oil, 1/4 cup coconut oil

I usually make a triple batch and store it in my 1L shampoo bottle since it has a nice pump and fits in my shower. Lasts me a super long time. You need a loofah or something to make it sudsy, H didn’t say anything for the longest time and then one day was complaining that it doesn’t really foam up until I told him he needs to use the fluffy thing in the shower :joy:

The texture isn’t nearly as good as from fresh, but I do exactly as rural described!

@Ckni27 that combo sounds divine

Yes - I prefer thawing & draining first. I have a bowl of broccoli defrosting in the fridge right now. Just drain, drizzle with olive oil and roast at 400F for about 25 minutes, stirring after 12.

Or you can do directly from frozen - https://www.budgetbytes.com/oven-roasted-frozen-broccoli/

I just like the extra char bits I get from defrosting and draining excess water.

Sorry for the terrible picture, it flies away if I get closer to the window. If you can see it well enough, does anyone know what this is? I looked up purple finch, but then it looked like a house finch from the pics I saw? I’ve only had feeders for a month so I’m trying to learn my bird friends.

It would depend on where you live, but looks like a house finch to me. I highly recommend the Cornell labs Merlin app.

I’m in Michigan, that’s what I assumed it was, thanks!

I have the same question re: where to start, but the opposite complaint (very oily skin), is the advice the same? I don’t even know if I’m supposed to moisturize or not

I have another question about the Hibar shampoo (or, rather, buildup in general, I guess?). I only wash my hair about once a week (unless I sweat a lot or walk in the woods and get creeped out by ticks), my hair is not oily, and I only very rarely use product. I don’t always use conditioner either. I need to get some new shampoo /conditioner, as the fancy color-protecting salon stuff ran out just as I was leaving Utah. I’ve been using what my sister has (and my parents previously) and was thinking about bar shampoo, but here’s the question - I get some kind of buildup on my scalp (and skin sometimes) but it is only obvious in the shower. Like, there is a waxy layer I can claw through on my scalp, but only when my hair/skin is wet. When it is dry it seems like nothing is there. So I think it might just be sebum, not product, and it doesn’t really seem to affect me since I don’t get the oily hair skin. So would you guys try the maintain or just use the moisturize?

A related question is, has anyone here do scalp exfoliation, and homemade or purchased (chemical), and is it worth it? I’ve read if you let buildup go on to long you can damage your follicles. (I don’t seem to be losing hair, just going grey.)

And related-related, it’s so humid out here that I have massive frizz that I 100% didn’t have in the arid west! Is there anything I can do that doesn’t involve product? I’m guessing no, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. The frizz is worst on the day I wash it, and sometimes when it is going to rain and the humidity is in the 80%+ range.

UNRELATED RANDOM QUESTION:

Does anyone have a favorite pierogi recipe? Mostly I am thinking for the dough. We are going onion potato and cheese, if you have filling recipes too. I have made them before, but I don’t have a go-to recipe. I am going to make them tonight.

I can only speak to the end part, but if it’s frizzier days you’re washing, then your hair is getting too stripped. Ways to avoid this are using shampoo only at the roots/rubbing into your scalp, and/or moisturizing more (ie, conditioner).

I use The Kitchn’s recipe (both filling and dough). Most of the time I use yogurt instead of sour cream. Bonus, it freezes well!

That’s so weird, I never got frizzy hair in Utah, but it happened all the time in TN and also here, and it doesn’t matter the brand of stuff I’ve used.

Ooh, thank you!

I might make 1.5 batch, I hate how much I am having to cook. I don’t have sauerkraut so I’ll use fried onions inside them instead.
