I swear it’s magical. I’ve been searching for a DIY recipe for years and I’ve never found an accurate one. Sigh…the dream…
Some kind of oil + cloves??
That’s what I’m thinking, and maybe peppermint oil? But I don’t know what the base is either!
Why did the Crash Test Dummies spend so much of Superman’s eulogy trash talking Tarzan?
Anyone have tips on cleaning a plastic shower curtain liner? I don’t really want to buy another but our situation is a bit unique.
We had a glass shower door that spontaneously shattered while H was showering. Instead of replacing it, our landlord handed us a tension rod and a plastic curtain. The shower is only a stall and fairly small so there’s no way to have the curtain fully open to dry after a shower and now it’s gross. I’ve heard people throw theirs in the washer but I’ve never had success with that in the past. Is there a trick I’m missing?
Also now that I’ve typed it out maybe I should cut the liner in half and only use half?
You could use half if that would cover the hole. The trick to throwing it in the washer is to throw it in with a couple of towels. Then hang it back up to dry. If it’s got a pretty print on it, it’ll wear that off over time, but it won’t hurt it. On the bright side, if it’s got an ugly print on it, it’ll wear that off over time, too!
I assume there is mildew at the bottom? And/or soap scum. Scrub the bottom while in the shower - then toss in the washing machine (hello bleach). Do you have an exhaust fan in the bathroom? I close the shower curtain to reduce pleats, then have the fan on to help dry. They will still get scummy, but less quickly. Or, they are cheap, Toss and buy another.
I would definitely cut it down to be shower-sized. You don’t need all those extra folds.
If you don’t want to cut, you might be able to just fold it over.
I feel like I am suddenly understanding your desire for real estate in a whole new light. This still isn’t fixed?!
Cut it down to size for sure. I’ve also had luck using magic erasers in the shower, or taking the curtain down and dipping it in a tub of bleach water and scrubbing a bit. It’ll keep building up mildew, but it does make it last a lot longer.
Haha well at the time H told the LL he was ok with him not replacing it, which annoyed me but I wasn’t the one who had to get stitches so…
I think I’m gonna just have to suck it up and run to the store for a new curtain and cut it in half. I don’t feel like trying to scrub the one I have and it’s pretty bad. I tried to order one online with my new fridge water filter the other day but it was only store pick up which was why I started to look into just cleaning it
As a landlord I would probably do something like that. Expensive custom fittings that spontaneously break are a pain in the ass. Cheap, easily fixed or replaced finishings are the way to go.
Nobody has ever needed stitches from a plastic shower curtain.
Eh, maybe. There’s still an 8” pane of glass along the wall that is just attracting soap scum because he didn’t remove the rest of the door and it makes the shower very dark because of the way the bathroom is shaped. So it’s not a great solution but we just don’t care enough to raise a fuss.
The thing should be cleaned up properly and made as nice as possible, but no injury inducing parts.
The glass is cleaned up, but the door consisted of two separate glass panels, and since the small one didn’t break he just left it there. There’s this weird mini glass wall with hinges on it that’s covered by the shower curtain now but you just have to make sure you only open the curtain from left to right otherwise you run into it.
So… I need shampoo and I need help.
I realize this isn’t a question I should have to crowd source since I have had hair since birth and should know how to deal with it by now, but I’m having issues and the internet is Overwhelm with suggestion.
Issues:
- I have half bleached/color-treated hair so I need shampoo friendly to that
- my scalp has a LOT of product build up and I’m trying to figure out how to get it free. I did an apple cider vinegar rinse thing, but it didn’t get it all off. I’m trying to figure out if I need like a scrubby scalp brush or a scalp treatment or a different shampoo or what?
- I was getting kevin murphy products, but my salon dude is covid-closed and you can’t get them at a regular store also they are ~~ so ~~ expensive compared to drugstore but maybe that’s fine if it’s worth it?
- Considering this like “custom” functionofbeauty brand because they are a potential sponsor but I don’t know if they’re any good? It’s like $23 each for a 16oz bottle. Usually takes me 5 months to get through a 8.4 oz bottle of shampoo.
- What brands are not trash to the world?
I’ve been procrastinating on this so now I’m officially out of shampoo and nearly out of conditioner
I know you can get them via someone in the industry, but they’re still really expensive, though - and I’m getting that product build up after using them. They’re so expensive - $35 for 8.4 oz.
Ooof! Yeah I dunno, I don’t color my hair at all, so my choices are mainly endocrine safety and earth friendliness framed.
Prior to getting the hair dyed last year, my main goal was “whatever is available at grocery outlet in a large container with a pump that doesn’t look really terrible for me”
