I don’t have that many even if you count my frozen embryos :joy:

We noticed the wiggler getting bored over the summer when he was 5 so we enrolled him in camp. Not sure what we’re going to do this summer now that the camp he went to is closed (other than Camp Nana, but he says he only wants that to be three days).

He wants to spend all his time with Dada, but he apparently needs time with other kids most of all.

This is probably a silly question, but I’ve heard kids shouldn’t have milk/food overnight because it puts them at risk for tooth decay. But why is this if the time between breakfast and brushing their teeth in the evening is longer than when they might eat overnight to morning tooth brushing?

Kiddo mostly stopped eating overnight a while ago but we’ve been getting random growth spurts where she cannot fall back asleep if she wakes up at night unless she eats something.

A huge factor here is that during the day we are eating and drinking regularly throughout, so that’s disrupting bacterial quorum and they’re not just sitting producing acid in one spot. Added to that, at night our saliva gets more viscous and there’s less turnover in general. that leads to more tooth decay.

That being said, the negative effects can definitely be helped substantially if you have them drink some water after whatever they consume before they go back to sleep. The really big issues that you see if kids that fall asleep with a bottle in their mouth, so there’s continuous strips of new sugar in there, or God forbid get put in the crib with a bottle of soda. Which I wish was a joke, but is absolutely something people do.

ETA obviously the water after does not apply to exclusively breastfed newborns/pre 6 months etc

Which sadly doesnt help with my child who needs a regular midnight snack, but we are working on switching to water.

Theoretically very much agree - unfortunately practically, this means utter destruction. I like how meerkat is containing science.

Amazing points! Part of why I’m asking is because I need to analyze and lay it all out

Yep. Wants all of his time with me but also with me focused on him even if we are parallel reading etc and wants me compliant with his secret rules

Legit one of my least favorite parts of parenting. That and the “and then you look up and say ‘wow I didn’t know she was there’” type prescriptive play. I refuse. I hates it.

I survived. Will there be diabetes? Most likely, yes.

My mom used to send me to bed with a sippy cup of diluted apple juice. All my baby teeth had fillings.

I just… Cannot imagine the thought process. Wouldn’t that cause chaos with their sleep? What is the reason???

The reason is happy/calm baby and parent survival.

I bet they actually do sleep well, but obviously it isn’t good and we know better. Not everyone does

Yep and just like. “I drink soda. The baby tried my soda and smiled! Now the baby always yells for the soda. He likes it!” :woman_shrugging: levels of health literacy and what people have seen as parenting norms vary wildly. I can say without exception the families I’ve had to provide education to about this love their children and aren’t purposely causing harm.

It is so fun to give a baby or toddler little nibbles of ice cream! I get the sentiment.

My dad always did it when my mom went to night school. He said it kept me happy (she caught him one time when she had forgotten something and he gave it to me right after she left).

Didn’t someone on here recently post an article about how telling teens that evil corporations want their eyeballs is more effective than telling them that social media is bad for their mental health? Something to that effect? Or am I imagining that?
