Oh I assumed she had destroyed the one you were using lol
I used one of these when we had the crib, now I use the outlet behind the twin bed frame so it’s not at all accessible.
ETA just saw you said no luck with outlet covers. Depending on how long the cord is you can put it behind a large anchored piece of furniture and use the cord covers where it comes out. I think the cuckoo is more tenacious than Pipsqueak though so maybe it is a matter of removing the monitor.
She did and I am not sure it’s worth buying a 4th baby monitor.
She broke 2, the adults broke 1. I found the one that we broke and the sound still works even though the picture is broken. So we have sound for tonight at least and can consider from there.
I hear V Tech has good customer service so I will call them tomorrow and see if they can help me at all and we’ll go from there I guess!
That’s what we did but ravioli doesn’t care about it the way cuckoo seems to lol
This is a dumb question but can you mount it high up near the door and plug it in outside the door?
That’s a clever idea! Probably the plug is too far, though.
Kiddo has been complaining about his belly hurting a lot lately and we have no idea why I know a lot of people here have had kids with tummy issues, or first hand experience with tummy issues, so I thought I’d ask the hive mind as I try to gather information.
When: often at bedtime, sometimes earlier.
Yesterday he said after school that it hurt during math class but at the time he told me it sounded like it was a past things and not current/on going. He did homework, video games, taekwondo, dinner, bath, and then said at bedtime that it hurt. So I think he was busy and not really noticing discomfort till bedtime? Today I specifically asked, it didn’t start hurting till bath time, he pooped and it got a little better but didn’t go away entirely.
Where: general abdomen, not in any particular spot. Hmm, although now that I think about it, a month ago he said his belly hurt on his left side and a week or two later made the same complaint but it seemed to go away so we didn’t think anything if it besides maybe being gas.
I’m lactose intolerant but this doesn’t seem like that. We limited his lactose intake and didn’t notice a difference. No other known food allergies in him or other family members.
We’ve tried simethicone (Gas X) but it seems to only have a placebo effect. Ditto for a Tums.
I’m not really sure what else to try or pay attention to. Right now he’s tossing and turning in bed trying to get comfortable, poor kid.
Is there a chance of constipation? Or anxiety?
It could also be a bit of inflammation/irritation.
The answer was strep throat!
I had no idea step could mainly present with an upset tummy and no fever. When the doctor mentioned a head ache he said “Oh yeah, I’ve got that too! It started hurting in the waiting area!”
I’m so glad it was something so treatable and not a whole big mystery thing.
Cuckoo’s only symptoms of strep were diaper rash and a single puking incident.
I definitely would not have picked strep!
My daughter is almost 5 and we’re at the decision point of if she should stay in her Montessori school for kindergarten or move to public school. She’s a summer birthday so did consider red-shirting her but her teacher at conferences recently told us she’s beyond ready for kindergarten both socially and academically.
So how we have the tough choice of Montessori for the 3rd year of the cycle (which everything online emphasizes the importance of this and makes me feel like a bad parent for considering pulling her) or the public school by our house where she can walk to school with neighborhood friends.
On one hand leaving her in Montessori to have freedom of curriculum is a bonus but at the same time I feel like there are benefits to having the peer social circle in your neighborhood (I loved walking to friends houses as a kid). Also could supplement activities because we’d free up money saved from tuition.
Probably overanalyzing this too much but hey that’s what first time Mom’s do right? Ha.
Would appreciate any thoughts/opinions!
“They” might deem it important but 1) they’re very much in their own world with zero experience of your daughter and 2) this is not a make or break decision. You have two good choices available to you, which is wonderful!
I’d put the most weight with the feedback you’re getting from her teacher who sees her every day at school and has tons of experience with kids your daughter’s age/stage.
(Also I love that she’d be able to walk to school with friends! Whether that happens this year or next.)
Thank you! Really appreciate the framing as not a make or break decision. Helpful to keep in mind I’m choosing between two good options!
This decision is also not permanent!
I would probably pick the public walkable school since outside time, walking, and community are big priorities for my family.
If you do this for a year, you will have saved some money and you get to see if the school is a good fit. If it’s not a good fit you can always put her in a different school later. Same with picking the Montessori school!
Another argument for doing this- interestingly, just the other day a work colleague was telling me that his parents sent him to a different school because they wanted/needed full-day kindergarten, and then he went to his neighborhood school for 1st grade. This man is at least 45 and he still remembers it as an upsetting experience!
So much wonderful advice!
Super appreciate it all. Love the piece about it not being permanent. We are still hoping to add another child to our family and if you don’t complete the third year cycle you’re black-listed from the Montessori school for future children. But now that I’m taking a step back I’m thinking maybe that’s a red flag anyway.
FWIW I went to a Montessori school for K then a public school after that and it was not traumatic or upsetting at all. Just as a counter point!
That’s fair! One might consider how sensitive one’s particular child is to disruption- my two older ones have very different tolerances.
Team walkable public school!
(Also team drop a line item expense from the budget!)
