I’m so torn on which to get lol. Most trips we take right now, and probably for forseeable future, are just to grandma’s house in the burbs, and usually we drive at night so he’s asleep? So maybe the original size

I think @Ferngully just has a mini!

We only have the original size and I wish we had just the mini but the original size does work fine in the car :woman_shrugging:t2:

Say more! Why do you wish you just had the mini?

We have 2 because it’s part of our bedtime routine and our child is in the car or at another residence a lot and things get left behind LOL. Very spoiled!

We have both an older original, and a somewhat newer mini. We use the mini like 40 times more. At this point we really only use the original when the mini is out of battery. I would definitely get the mini personally.

Good climbing/vestibular input toys for 1-2 years old? Good brands?

I already have the nuggets.

Stepping stones. Or a cardboard box. Or Ikea sells a cardboard box printed to look like a spaceship for $25 which is pretty awesome and is on my list.

Somewhere just after age 2 my kid got really into his kick scooter and scoot bike.

We do just have the mini! I’ve never lamented the absence of the regular size (but also haven’t thought too hard about it).

@Meowkins how do you use it as part of bedtime routine and around what age did it shift? Darkness means less playground time and Spore has waaaay too much energy last night at bedtime. He was sweet but didn’t fall asleep until after 10! Heeeeelp.

Hmmmm Meowlet is very lawyerly on the spectrum of lawyerly children and must have a Reason for everything, so that’s my context:

Around 5PM we start using the concept of “low energy” and “high energy” things. Does that activity make your energy go up or down?

So around Yoto I tell him he can only use Low Energy cards (like Secret Garden) vs high Energy cards (anything funny or related to an intensely loved special interest). I ideally want him asleep by 8PM so I tell him at 7:30PM that Yoto time is done. He’ll go weeks where he skips the cards entirely and just wants to listen to the Yoto podcast with Jake.

We start Yoto right after stories are done and lights out. He sometiems uses a little lamp to keep drawing while listening because drawing calms him and helps him focus.

Can you tell that it is a constant arms race between the two of us, Meowlet’s very active brain and me trying to rein it all in :joy:

We just started doing a koala moon nighttime podcast on the yoto at bedtime. Lights out and in bed before the podcast starts, we start it from our phone to play on the yoto and turn off all screen brightness. The only issue is setting a timer to turn off the yoto from our phones before a second podcast starts. Pipsqueak usually falls asleep during the podcast. This is a huge win because until two weeks ago she needed us to stay in the room until she fell asleep (we listened to the podcast together for abia month before trying by herself)

Rope ladder. Tummy scooter. Regular scooter. Little slide (or just make nugget slides). I should bring our slide in. That spinny floor chair that looks like a toboggan.

Turtle steps. Wobble board- can use upside down as a rocker. Alternatively, one of the rockers that goes with a pikler. Sensory swing is 10000/10 excellent. We also have a trapeze and spinning handle and all sorts of things- installed those around 2 years old. Couch cushions into a multi level obstacle course lol.

It can help to break it down as like, spin, invert, speed, compress, etc for the input types.

Yay so many ideas for my kid who wants Mom and Dad to constantly toss, spin, and flip her.

Ok totally different question.

She’s been getting solid 2 hr naps for 5+ months since we switched to one nap. Maybe the odd 1.5 or 2.5

For the last week she has taken a single 2.5 hour nap. Every other day they have been 30 mins to 50 mins, with me trying to get her back down for at least 20. Today I managed to get her back down when she woke up after ehhh 40?

I guess my question is what the fuck? She’s 15 months, she’s not trying to drop her nap right? Right???

Super common to have nap strikes once every few months. I always gave it a full 14 days before declaring the nap abandoned. This saved me at least four separate times. She always went back to napping within that two week window. I forget who I heard that advice from, but it served me really well.

Yeah I probably should relax but I want my 2 hour break back so baddddd

She’s getting all her molars one. At. A. Time. Immediately. Back. To. Back. And so sleep has been a challenge. Plus developmental leaps as it feels like she is saying something new every single day.

I have no advice, but how fun is talking! What is she into saying right now?

Just it blows my mind when she says shit and I’m like WHEN DID YOU LEARN THAT.

I regret calling my boobs titties ever because now she’ll just yell titties with INCREASING VOLUME AND INSISTENCE in public spaces when she wants to nurse =_=
