Meowlet asked to grab some from the grass and put them in a container for animals. I figure it’s fine if he doesn’t eat them. He washed his hands right after but naturally as he was using his HANDS to eat his waffle snack I noticed he had dirt under his nails. As he was sucking his fingers to eat all the butter and syrup from the waffle I started seriously second guessing myself.
I cannot tell if this is actually a concern or my contamination OCD at play.
Again, Meowlet is extremely risk averse and takes seriously not to eat mushrooms from the yard and I was there with him. But idk? What if there were like microscopic mushroom bits under his nails? I don’t fucking know biology?
I’m part of a very useful FB group with lots of professional mycologists. They’re pretty clear that it required ingestion with mushrooms and not just touch like that. Even toxic mushrooms, tiny amounts straight up eaten are generally no issue apparently!

Mo is in a phase where she’ll get FURIOUS when she uses an electronic toy and it makes sound/light. Wtf is going on? Is this a sign to throw away her VTech toys we find most annoying?
We got a lot of VTech back when she was basically blind due to delayed vision development and we wanted toys she could actually see/hear but now that she seems to hate them I’m like okay now we can THROW THEM INTO THE SUN
Breastfeeding elimination diets. I think I need to do one. Will be checking in with her doctor, but in the meantime:
I can’t handle the crazy intense ones, I will fucking fall apart if I have to take everything out except like… potatoes and turkey.
I know that cows milk is a high priority allergen, as is egg and soy. What are other high priority allergens to eliminate? I know nuts is on the list, and I can make that happen although cutting out both cheese and nuts basically eliminates all my snacks. Seafood?
My doctor’s recommendation was to start with dairy because it is the most likely, then egg, then soy. Each time you have to wait at least 2 weeks to determine if it was the culprit because the proteins can stay in your breastmilk for 2 weeks after eating it.
Enjoy life brand has a bunch of allergy friendly foods including snacks bars. Honestly I started pounding the toddler pouches from target that have oats and blueberries as a mod-night snack too.
I have a recipe for an allergy friendly pumpkin pie that was easy enough to make during the 4th trimester even, let me know if you want it!
This is why I decided to drop everything at once and see if things improved drastically in two weeks. Then I figured I could add things back in one at a time. I was so used to being on a limited diet for other health reasons that I just kept to it while I was breastfeeding (Pipsqueak had severe reflux that got better but never went away so I wasn’t that motivated to add things and potentially make it worse again)
I was also recommended 1 ingredient at a time. It is a big deal to drop something from your diet when you’re already exhausted, so a lot of the recommendations now are too minimise impact to you as much as possible while slowly testing what works for baby.
I think I’ll try milk/soy and maybe eggs first. At least setting myself up for that today; we have an appointment tomorrow with the doctor to chat about it.
What economists said, but also know it might not take 2 weeks. I couldn’t handle the thought of losing dairy again so I said I’d give it 48 hours of trying. It made a difference within 12. Made it a lot easier when sleep, skin, and spit up improved to stick to it.
(Also if you drop dairy and want 4 sticks of fake butter, lots of violife cheese, and anything else I have kicking around in my fridge and pantry still lmk and I can drop it off- we live in the same town right? I’m like 95% sure that’s you I’ll bring chili and homemade sourdough if I do!)
I have no advice, but I can see that you’ve had a pregnancy and postpartum journey with some bumps, and I am over here rooting for you. I hope whatever is ahead is an easy change for you and babby adapts immediately. You are doing so well!
