Pregnancy is weird

Thinking of you.

Sending you good thoughts and hopefully you get your next scan soon.

Side note - I had an ultrasound every single appt, is that not normal? I mean - there was an ultrasound machine in all the exam rooms so the OB would take a quick look everytime I went in.

I don’t know. It wasn’t my experience last time and once again I seem to only have them every few weeks? My first pregnancy, though, we were part of a Centering Pregnancy group that met in a room that only had a doppler. This time I’m not in a group, so I thought I’d get more? But I guess not.

I only had three ultrasounds–one at 8 weeks, one at 13 (which was optional) and one at 20. IDK how they decide these things though. Mine was a very uneventful pregnancy.

Yes that tracks with my last pregnancy and the notes I have from my first OB visit for this one

My BFFs who are pregnant rn are having way more, and I think it’s because they’re over age 35? That’s like, the only reason I can think. I turn 35 in March by which point I’ll be almost in 3rd tri so I guess I squeaked under the line?? Whatever, medicine

I think the norm is only those 3. Unless they don’t get everything they need at the 20 week or you have a special consideration (I personally am going to get one at 34 weeks because my belly is measuring small so they think it could be a growth restriction but I don’t think there is, I’m just really tall).

Am I remembering right that you had GD, and they caught it on the earlier side?

I also got way more than 3 ultrasounds, but at my practice it was the combo of 35 + IVF + lots of weird second trimester bleeding.

Sample size of 2 here but both pregnancies I had 2 ultrasounds. First I had one at 20 weeks and one around 35ish weeks. Wouldn’t have had the second one but the midwife wasn’t sure she was head down.

Second we had an ultrasound at 10ish weeks because they couldn’t find the heartbeat on the Doppler. Turns out she was just not cooperating. And the standard 20 week ultrasound. For both we would have only had the one though as standard.

I had ultrasounds every appointment both pregnancies (was 33 at first pregnancy, 36 at second). My second pregnancy I only had in-person appointments every other month though (this was a post-Covid change I believe). On top of those I also had the 12 week and 20 week ultrasound in radiology which they took measurements. My ultrasounds with my OB were more like “here’s the baby, heartbeat’s good, ok done”. My first pregnancy baby was measuring small so I did additional growth ultrasounds in radiology every month in 3rd tri. It was a lot of appts.

They also tested me for GD at first intake appointment (6-8 weeks) both pregnancies. I had asked about the GD testing and they said that it’s their practice to test everyone during 1st tri and again later on :woman_shrugging:t2:. Has GD second pregnancy but not 1st.

I had a dating scan at 8 weeks; an early anatomy scan at 13; the regular anatomy scan at 20 as standard procedure for a person over 35. After I ended up on meds for GD, I also had a weekly biophysical profile ultrasound checking that baby was doing well and the placenta wasn’t messed up.

You know what? Sometimes I forget that I was high risk due to bicornuate uterus because my OB was so casual about it.

That was probably why all the ultrasounds.

Frozen blueberries are a magical food. Probably good for the zofie constipation issues too

@noodle I think I stole your nausea.

Ungrateful thoughts

Mo has been going through a pretty rough patch basically since I found out and I have been exhausted even on the rare good night of sleep by like noon.

It seems like this is pretty likely to work out - I’m like 9 weeks. by this point when it didn’t I had multiple indicators that it was going south. But I’m still not excited, I’m just tired and dreading the newborn phase and worried about my first kids adjustment. Like right now if it didn’t work out I might be one and done but that might be first trimester everything is the worst talking? But even if I weren’t one and done it would be no ttc until me and current kid are sleeping through the night.

I’m so tired.

I’m sorry you’re tired and nauseated. :people_hugging: The first trimester is no joke, between the nausea and the insomnia.

I’m unisom-ing through the insomnia but it doesn’t help when someone suddenly decides 5 AM is wake up time.
