Pregnancy is weird

Summary

So… My feelings about my body became much more positive during pregnancy because it had a shape that was useful and for a reason.

But also, even though I could see the changes, some people didn’t until the last month. And that was hard. Also, some people gain and some lose, and some stay one size. All can be healthy

Are elastic waistbands not a thing in y’all’s world?

My point was that all waistbands should be elastic  but also last time I was pregnant I was wearing normal jeans and work pants which were not elasticated for the first while… I own a lot more elasticated stuff now.

body and size and stuff

I didn’t like some of the changes pregnancy brought to my body (boobs, initial gauntness from HG). I didn’t mind others (belly, extra fat on my body and face). I don’t like change and there was a lot of change quite rapidly and in many directions (complicated by, well, my complication of HG and initial weight loss).

It’s ok to not love or even like the changes. Talking about them to Ponder and a few other people made them tolerable and that was enough. Being uncomfortable in the shape and the details didn’t change that I was proud of me for what I can do (stay alive and occasionally enjoy myself, and be lucky enough to grow another).

Ahhh.

My most comfortable skirt is a maternity skirt I bought in a thrift store without realizing it was maternity. Allll stretch. Gonna get hella mileage our of that thing.

Anyway Greyman is downstairs cleaning the kitchen because I couldn’t stand being down there because of all the smells. Just overpowering slightly off chicken and garlic. And this is with clogged morning sinuses. Of course he can’t smell a damn thing.

Dear body, please explain why cold water is gross but potatoes with curry and onion and mushrooms are dog’s gift to you. Love Greyweld.

I managed to just book in my first trimester ultrasound in time. 13w+4 days, apparently it has to be done before 13+5!
But I can’t find anything about when the NIPT needs to be done by. Just “any time after 10 weeks”.

My usual wardrobe is already full of elastic waists and some were great for early pregnancy. The wise people here (rightfully) nudged me to get maternity clothes early on, far before I was showing. I got 1 pair of each leggings, jeans, and shorts which were wonderful for trimesters 1 & 2.

Now my waist is 44% bigger. Elastic waists that previously felt like a nice hug are now too hot in east coast heat waves. So now I’m on the no-waists-at-all train. I switched to mostly t-shirt style loose/A-line dresses or, let’s be honest, a shirt and no pants if I can get away with it. Once it cools off I’m excited to wear these maternity overalls again. Not cheap but I got everything else in the $8-20 range (used).

This is a good reminder for me that I’ll be in my third trimester for all of summer. I will have to pick up a couple of maternity dresses to live in.

My waist was 21” larger when I went into labor than it was pre pregnancy. :flushed::flushed::flushed: that’s… a lot. What an alarming realization. I’d thought to measure, but not to compare lol.

I was SO HOT. Furnace. Maternity dresses are the ultimate.

I know people who did NIPT at 18-20 weeks after anatomy scans so I think it can be done pretty much whenever, as long as the fetal blood percentages have reached a certain threshold (9-11 weeks depending on the company).

Ok this is good news. I’ll call the company and check anyway. The receptionist at the ultrasound place was slightly alarmed I hadn’t had my bloods done yet until I explained I was getting the NIPT and not the free one through Medicare (which needs to be done first tri).

I just had a look and they all seem to have empire waist. People, please sell me a giant lightweight sack, that is all I’m gonna want to wear.

Same! I don’t wanna look like the Duchess of Cambridge tyvm.

I found good lightweight sacks through regular clothes sized up 1-3 sizes, not maternity wear. Not sure if it’s available in Oz but this is my current favorite.

Good idea. If I wait a month there will definitely be dresses like this available everywhere.

I’ve gotten a lot of the typical symptoms but I seem to be missing one I was looking forward to…
