Pregnancy is weird

Just this week I am starting to feel large. I am peeing every 5 seconds, dialing back the exercise a lot more since there’s not much room, and feeling the heat more easily.

We went camping in the mountains above Davis, WV this weekend. Gloriously cool weather and fresh air. Getting into and out of the tent was awkward; this might be my last tent trip until after birth. I’ve been mobile and agile much longer than expected, so just trying to be grateful for a healthy pregnancy so far and switch mindsets into major prep mode.

I looked up where things stood in my pregnancy app and I’m in week 27, 4 days away from 3rd trimester! It’s starting to feel really real.

Having your internal space heater as the weather gets cooler could be handy.

I have cravings this time around. I’m trying to follow them whenever possible!
Currently craving lasagna and cherry ripe bars.

Yum! :cherries:

Just cried over my Dad’s spaghetti sauce that I asked him to make specially for me. It is so good. I told Ponder he just doesn’t make it right and am afraid I have no care for his feelings when the food is this good.

My glucose test was a bit of a cl*ster. The first appointment got lost in the system and my next attempt I went to the wrong location. Also, the morning of we were out of eggs and I had a 5-second meltdown until Spouse gently asked if plain yogurt was an allowable option before the test.

Anyway, the nice lady at the lab sorted me out, and I was even able to wait out the hour at home despite having prepped a car to wait in (covid). The blood draw was quick and painless. By this time it was early afternoon and I had only had a small cup of yogurt all day (plus the glucose bottle). Afterward I immediately went next door to the Popeye’s drive-thru and ATE TWO PIECES OF FRIED CHICKEN DURING the 1-mile drive home. Driving manual.

Anyway, today I got a message saying I failed the glucose test and have to go back for the 3-hour fasted version. When the nurse called she had a bunch of tips for next time like drinking lots of water the day before. I’m a tad annoyed that they didn’t give the cheat sheet earlier. Part of me is convinced I don’t have gestational diabetes and wants to irresponsibly ignore this all. But that’s probably a bad idea.

Fun update: we decided to find out the sex of the baby at this point. Partly because it lets us cheat and only come up with half the name ideas. Partly because then we do or do not have to learn & decide about circumcision.

Both of those felt like lazy reasons but spouse hinted at being excited to just know more about the baby, which I thought was sweet. (On my end I’m getting kicked all the time so I feel like we know each other very well already.)

Anyway: DNA is boy!

Baby Pancakes has an eviction date. 6 days to go!

I am very pleased for the end date right now. Reflux and groin pain and generally not being able to sleep or be comfortable at all is wearing very thin. My diet has been reduced to mostly plain pasta and toast.

Attempting to be the primary carer of a 3 year old in this condition is ridiculous, especially when most things are closed due to covid, or best avoided at this point because picking up anything with symptoms that match covid will make going to the hospital and having any visitors or support very complicated. I only need to make it through two more days of solo parenting :grimacing:

Right now I’m very concerned about how Pikelet will cope with me recovering from a caesarean and having a new baby taking up so much of my attention. She is very comfortable being an only child.

Oof. Sorry you have to do the long one. We are sent straight for a fasting 2 hour here, and quite frankly I’m requesting to opt out this time.

The fun update is awesome! How exciting to know a bit more about your baby!

@pancakes so close to the end. I am glad you’ll have baby on the outside soon.

Strategically angling my video camera to show only my shoulders for this work call. Only 1 of my bras fit anymore and it is in the wash.

Just ordered a few more to try (I feel like anomalily with the bralette haul). The clasp ones seem a bit complicated for my brain, so I got some pull-side nursing bras and some just plain bigger ones that seem like they could also be pulled aside.

Lol I’ve reached IDGAF stage already and just don’t turn on my camera anymore. Chances of me actually having more than 1-2 articles of clothing on at any point during the day are pretty slim.

Metallic saliva that tastes bad and puts me off eating other food. Why does my body make it so hard to get the nutrients we need?

I hope to be back in my office in a month and am certainly not going to be wearing a bra, even if I really “should” by that point. I’m glad y’all can just avoid offices altogether!

That feeling when your partner walks into the bedroom and says “Wow, something really smells in here”
And your response is “Yes. It’s me.”

(He helped me shower but the pregnancy farts are awful.)

I’ve gotten a few maternity-specific pieces of clothing which have been great, but during the heatwaves I’ve been mostly wearing one H&M skirt from Poshmark and two dresses on repeat. Die, waistbands, die.

size/body stuff

I seem to have made another jump in size (month 7) so bought some more bras, t-shirt dresses, & workout clothes. Some are actual maternity clothes, but most are just regular clothes 3 sizes up from my pre-pregnancy size.

Even in some maternity brands I’m close to maxing out the sizes (L/XL), and I started out XS/S pre-pregnancy. Must be extra frustrating to find clothes for late pregnancy for humans who are any larger to start with.

Oh no, I haven’t even begun to confront upcoming size changes. I’ve already been feeling too big for me and not used to my body and it’s about to get worse.

@greyweld it sounds like the work you are already doing with the intuitive eating coach could be super helpful in this plot twist.

Bodies do amazing things in pregnancy! Blood volume increases by an average of 45%, you grow a 2-pound placenta that has 12m^2 of blood vessel surface area to exchange blood, you grow an entire freaking human being.

Some of these changes are uncomfortable. They’re also inconvenient/expensive/annoying because I’ve had to shop for new clothes, buy more groceries, or spend more time tweaking my eating. But remembering that all this is because I’m now 1.71 humans has been really helpful in being okay with all the alien takeover.

I’ve also been lucky to have a healthy pregnancy and able to move/exercise/play outdoors far more than I had hoped. It took me a bit of work to find good research & medical advice on this but happy talk more about it at any time.

@Ferngully, you might check out bra extenders to go with your new clothes. They are cheap and amazing and even in the last 3 weeks I’ve gone from using them on the smallest setting to a larger one. I think I got 2 for $7 at Target.
