Pregnancy is weird

I have always needed to eat that frequently. I can totally see how it would be easier if you only had to make 2 meals a day!

Me too! It’s my norm. I have always eaten at 6, 9, 12, 3, and 6. I did somewhat closer segment when I was pregnant. I get very sick and low blood sugar if I push any further than 3 hours, even while not pregnant.

I made my coworker’s day on Tuesday at work when I said I needed 2nd breakfast at 9. He said “like a hobbit?” And when I said yes he lost it :joy::joy::joy:

Is month 8 growth spurt a thing? I ordered delivery pizza (double meat, double cheese, all the veg) for bedtime snack last night because none of the food in the house seemed substantial enough, and I still woke up at 3 hungry.

Oh. Huh.

Oh dear. You need food.

Are you doing the continuous glucose monitor? I was thinking about asking for one but by the time I got around to it, I only have a few weeks left to go. (C-section scheduled for 2 weeks!!)

@rural I applied another slice of pizza to my face at 5:30am and, lo and behold, was able to fall asleep again :pizza:.

@AnneBeddingfeld Yes, it’s been much more convenient and manageable with the continuous monitor. During the weekdays, it’s really common for things to be too hectic to get the 1h reading. And it’s been interesting to see the data around snacks and overnight too - like the reading above. I had 6 weeks remaining when I first got it, but I can see how with 2 weeks to go it might not be worth the hassle. I got mine through Veri, a fitness/healthy company that has a pharmacy prescribe it for you, so insurance didn’t cover it but the process was fast and easy. The monitor itself is the Abbott Libre. They have to be FDA approved, which is reassuring.

Pregnancy insomnia can go fuck itself. Why was I awake at 5 am? Why did I not fall asleep at all between then and 8:30 despite being in bed with my eyes closed doing all the meditations and relaxation techniques? I planned to be productive today and instead all is fucked.

I mentally composed a terrible poem on my walk today! Inspired by prior conversation here :joy:

How much is bloat? How much is me? How much is baby, how much is pee?
Is it gas, for another day?
Adipose, here to stay?
Baby ass, growing large?
My constipation, taking charge?

I don’t care you know, what’s her or what’s me.
My body has changed because a baby is on board.
That makes it a baby bump, you see!
Pants should not be a moral reward

No matter what percent of your tum is made up of baby bum,
Stop the mental song and dance, go and buy the goddamn pants

On the theme of having a body!

In huge personal news, I have finally been feeling well enough to exercise. Between IVF restrictions/the drugs making me feel bad/a rough trimester, I haven’t been had a regular workout routine since October. Does anyone have structured, short prenatal workouts that you like that work for someone who is really deconditioned? My goals are to maintain and if possible build strength to support pregnancy and labor.

@ginja_ninja i know you mentioned Peloton but I’m not seeing a ton of prenatal content: were you doing their regular workouts and then modifying if needed? Or maybe there is a big section I’m missing?

Weight gain question, no numbers

Summary

Does anyone know if there is a weight gain chart by week that US doctors typically use? I want to be sure I’m not wildly off track.

I know not everyone would consider this helpful information, so thank you for respecting that I get to make decisions for my own body.

Edit because I wasn’t clear enough: if you disagree with my doctor and don’t think this is helpful, thrilled for you, please make your own choices accordingly and respect my bodily autonomy.

For easier workouts, there’s some by body fit by Amy that are nice for ease in. And there’s a couple “pregnancy and post partum tv” ones labeled for being easier or slower- definitely look for those because while I love her workouts, they’re on the tougher end for prenatal content online. Generally, prenatal yoga videos will be easier than prenatal cardio or Pilates ones, IME.

I don’t know if this would be sufficiently short, and also not free. I have been doing the Belle Method, which is a pilates & prenatal education program for the second half of pregnancy. They also have a 1st trimester and 2nd tri program called the bump method. Workouts are ~45 mins, so maybe too long, but I’ve found the structure nice and also it’s scalable enough for me, who hadn’t exercised beyond walking in 5 months.

I like this 10-minute barre workout from Lazy Dancer for the back, which is great to prevent back pain. I alternate with this foot & calf one because I had some ankle and plantar fasciitis issues postpartum last time. Most of her videos are 10-20 minutes which fits well in my life right now. Her style is extremely cheerful, which is either great or annoying depending.

Pelvic floor exercises and diaphrammatic breathing are also useful to add to the rotation, to support pelvic floor control/strength/flexibility during labor.

For the peloton I did mostly low impact or artist rides for the music vibe I wanted and adjusted as needed. For yoga they have a filter for pre and post natal. It wasn’t a ton of workouts, and I repeated quite a few of the yoga classes. There is also a pre/post natal ride collection but there are not a ton of classes.

weight gain response

Its based on your pre-pregnancy weight, is normally shown as a straight line, and is at best very, very loosely accurate, because weight gain is both non-linear and varies. Sorry. Had ro caveat it.

Useful is actually tracking 1/ week if thats a thing you can do because sudden changes can indicate problems. Much like with normal weight.

Jazzercise has a new pregnancy collection and they have a free trial- Jazzercise low-impact was my go-to. I also liked Sarah Beth prenatal yoga- I only did the free ones.

I value this community a lot and am not responding the way I would like to because it is not conducive to long term relationship building.

I don’t tell anyone else how to think about their own bodies and would appreciate the same show of respect.
