A day off. Me and my child and maybe my cat and definitely no chores or other humans.

It just breeds them.

We have a new sofa so now I want a new TV, yeh?

Rationale:

  • the old TV is 13 years old (is this relevant if it still works fine?)
  • the old TV is a plasma panel which probably uses a lot of electricity? (does this in anyway justify the embodied energy of a new more energy efficient TV?
  • I want a fancy pants TV that hangs on the wall like a picture frame and looks pretty
  • it really would be a better fit for our small living space, (yes? yes?)

I would definitely update my TV if it was a plasma that old. They’re energy hungry and run hotter than current LED TVs. Also these days TVs are more connected, so easier to access online streaming stuff, we still have to use a PC attached to the TV to stream our Netflix.

We have an Apple TV hooked up to it so I don’t think we’d notice a vast improvement in connectivity.

I’ll look into the energy consumption a bit more. I can probably get Mr Pancakes over the line very easily with better picture quality. I have a thing about discarding things while they still work. Would anyone want our old TV? :woman_shrugging:

We had a dumb 32inch TV for the first 6 years living together - luckily it broke and we were able to guilt free upgrade. I have been super happy with a 50inch Samsung smart TV. We used to slum it with chromecast but having the apps built in is pretty rad.

Someone on Facebook marketplace or buy nothing would probably want your tv if the only objection is throwing it out. Getting actual money for it might be harder, but around here old TVs go between $25-50.

We gave our old giant TV away to a friend with kids. I think they wanted something for the kids to watch movies in the basement and it worked great for that.

Getting rid of it close to the beginning of the university school year might be easier as well (if you are near one) as new student move to campus or to apartments near campus and might not have anything yet… :woman_shrugging:

It’s definitely easier with a smart TV, before I had one I connected the computer to the TV and just streamed things to the computer and used the TV as a monitor. It worked, but connected is nicer/more convenient (especially if I wanted to use the computer for something).

I sketched up how I envision the new TV looking in our living room on a gallery style wall. I’m pretty sure this means we are going to get it.

Also now I want to paint the room too, and buy more plants (with associated pots), and maybe an arm chair? Certainly some artwork, and definitely we need to find an old long pine school bench, and modify all the electrical and data points?

I desire everything :upside_down_face:

That is very airy and pretty! (Only because I have babies on the mind: Is that a small cactus at toddler height on the left?)

Looks like a Zanzibar Gem to me.

I thought the tiny pots next to that one were possibly a tiny cactus.

Also I love that you identified the plant from a sketch.

On my phone the image was too small to see the plants besides the Zanzibar. I reckon you’re right, one looks like a cactus.

Yes but only because it was quick and easy to draw. actual plants may differ

I do like the idea of the picture frame tvs.

This is what I desire (but smaller). When we purchased our old TV all those years ago we picked one with a bezel that most resembled a black picture frame. This TV appeals to that me.

Never in a million years will I be able or want to buy a brand new vehicle, but I’ll admit that simply from looks alone, this electric truck had little hearts popping out of my eyeballs.

Yow
