Not Today, Amazon

Liked for the brand name. That is excellent on multiple levels.

I think Kobo is still owned by Rakuten but distributed by Walmart. You can still buy direct from Kobo I believe.

Thank you! Took a look at their site, they have very reasonable shipping cost (flat $2.99 for 48 states). Can you speak to their durability? There will, of course, be a difference in use since I’m looking for everyday, low-impact wear vs athletic wear.

This is what I did. I did take a look at Kobo in store, but they didn’t stock the model I wanted so I ordered straight from Rakuten.

They’re holding up pretty well after 18 months of weekly use. They are a little slick though. Good for sliding in linoleum but not great if you didn’t mean to slide

Oh, I wasn’t aware of the distinction there! Even better.

Including the most important details :joy:
The good news is that I mostly have horrible carpet in my apartment and will likely double these up with hand-knit socks as we move into winter.

Bumping this up for Black Friday/holiday shopping stuff.

My doctor wanted me to start taking fish oil again and the brand I like gives free shipping if you subscribe to auto deliveries. Plus slightly cheaper than the Amazon price.

Does anyone have info or a good link pro or con the Amazon boycott this week related to the unionization efforts?

My social media has people in favor. I saw and marginally skimmed an article on Slate.com this morning about it suggesting it’s complicated and maybe even counterproductive.

As compared to buying from Amazon in any other week, is it:
less recommended?
more recommended?
the same?

Thanks!

I’ve been sort of confused by the calls for boycott because I’m not sure what it does to support the union and it seems like the boycott makes more sense in response to Amazon’s horrible labor policies, but in that case it makes more sense to just stop buying from Amazon all the time if you can.

I’m sorry - I don’t have much to add except that I personally won’t be buying anything from amazon but not in relation to the boycott.

Anyone have a rec for good bike shorts that aren’t crazy expensive but also aren’t cheap fast fashion garbage? They’ll mostly be used under dresses, so fun patterns aren’t important. Ideally I can try them on in person first.

I think these meet all your criteria except in-person try-on. $26, really comfy waistband, and pockets. https://www.senitaathletics.com/products/biker-shorts-8-in-inseam-black

Thank you!

I’ve just seen ads for universal standard ones and I’ve heard good things about the company in general

I want some wire baskets to hold baking supplies in my lazy Susan corner cupboard. I can’t think of a place to get them that isn’t an internet behemoth. Any ideas?

Do you have a goodwill or something similar near you? They often have home-goods. Totally a crapshoot but I’ve gotten storage baskets at t hrift stores and it can be a nice way to limit the overwhelming prospect of choosing something.

No goodwill but a few independent thrift stores. That I’ve never been in because pandemic. Good excuse to check them out though!

A local Ross or TJ Maxx might have things like that too. Or like… Kohl’s?

Not exactly littler local shops but still not The Big Bad.
