Nighttime training underwear for kindergartener

Is this a thing? I feel like my FB feed was full of products a couple months ago and now radio silence. DD wants to try going to bed in undies, but I’m hesitant to clean pee soaked sheets. Is there an overnight training underwear that will help reduce the mess?

Like a pull up or like those pyjama pants?

She’s in pullups at present. I think something that will let her feel wet if she pees without soaking the sheets. What are the pj pants?

Maybe this? But they look messy.

I’m sure you’ve already considered this, but on the off chance you haven’t, I really like regular underwear with the pull up over. Containment without excessive padding.

Has some nighttime trainer options, I have a few pull up style diapers I’ve bought from them

The training underwear that I’ve seen is either just extra thick and will definitely still soak the sheets, or is basically plastic wrapped. I think underwear under pullups is the easiest option!

Ah, I hadn’t thought of this as an option! We’ll see if she’s motivated to keep the undies dry and if the feedback helps. Thank you!

These really really don’t hold much. Do regular undies plus a pull up and a plan for how many nights of being dry will tell her if her body is ready

We got a few pairs of UpAiry undies. I don’t think they would hold a full bladder, but they are good for catching an early trickle if kiddo realized too late and couldn’t make it to the potty on time. They were handy for a while but they’re not really in our regular rotation.

I’ve gotten ads for peejamas, which are a bit bigger and seem like they might have a better chance of holding more.

Overnight we’re still using a pullup. If he has a ton of liquid or we somehow get him pointed incorrectly, he still leaks out of that (got much better after I realized he has outgrown size 6 and needs a 2-3T pullup).

I also use this moderately sized mattress protector, then sheet, then full mattress protector underneath. It’s fuzzy enough that my kid doesn’t complain about having it on top of the sheet, and it’s a smaller thing to wash in case of accidents.

If you want mattress protection, here is my method (as a parent of two chronic bedwetters, who still washes sheets a few times a week)

Summary

layer 1: zip on plastic mattress protector. This only comes off if guests are over
layer 2, 3, & 4: cloth mattress protector with waterproof backing. If there is a midnight situation, you can strip to the 1st dry layer, then make the bed and still have something on the bed.

When I was deep in the trenches, I added a fitted sheet between layers 2, 3, & 4 - that way we didn’t have to wrestle with one for an overnight change.

My children were not ready to overnight train, and eventually the oldest [mostly] grew out of it, hopefully the younger will soon.

They have anti-diuretic meds that they can take at bedtime when away from home to keep dry, but they aren’t really recommended for daily use. They are very effective though.

If the kids are giving up their beds for guests, all the mattress covers come off, in case of lingering smells

We don’t do the zip up but we do layers. Number of accidents varies wildly for us. Our bed also has layers because they also sleep there.

The moveable mattress pad is intriguing.

We have a waterproof mattress protector on DD’s bed but the layering makes sense for when you take away the pull-up.

I’m not sure she’s even remotely ready, but we’re kind of curious. She pees in her pull-up while she’s awake bc it’s convenient. She’s fully aware of what she’s doing. We’ll see if taking a baby step away from the pull-up motivates her to stay dry, at least while awake. No idea if she’s ready to stay dry overnight. Honestly probably not. The undies under the pull-up is a low stakes way to test it out.

Similar to what was recommended above, we use these mattress pads on top of the fitted sheet, which is on top of a mattress protector. It makes it so much easier when there is a small accident (my 6-year old is still in a pull up)

Thank you!

Our 5.5 year old dropped his pull up this week. We have a mattress protector, fitted sheet, and then a separate thicker smaller mattress protector like the ones above for the final layer. We have only had to wash the smaller pad so far.

I was certain that neither of my kids were ready and they absolutely insisted on it. Turns out, when it’s their own idea, I’m the one eating my words. Hope it works similarly for you!

This seems to be the way.

I’m trying to make sure we’re all 100% on board before embarking on this journey. DD was waffling last night, so we tabled it for now.
