Literally if there is a dog who is so expensive that he would push us to veterinary medical tourism, it would be this dog! Give me a few more years of this and I’ll be ready for it. (Edit for anyone worried, he’s totally fine and stable, just expensive to maintain)

Coop was on a stupid expensive inhaler that even using GoodRx or Costco was ridiculously expensive. We ended up buying them from Canada on our Vet’s recommendation. We used two different pharmacies and they were both set up to deal with it being for a dog. I can dig up the names if you want them.

I get mine from Petmeds. There also a site which I think is Dr. Foster.

This is so smart! I’ll check with the prescribing vet to see if they have a way of doing this that they recommend, but will let you know if that’s not the case. They’re usually pretty savvy about this kind of thing. Thanks!

Ok, I reached my first mini savings goal today! I officially have $5k+ sitting in my checking account. It feels weird and like I should move it but it’s also SO RELAXING to see. Like, that’s just there, it’s not earmarked for anything, it’s spendable outside of my emergency fund. Sigh of relief.

My dog cost $18,500 in 2021, and has already racked up about $4,000 this year. I hear you, bruh. I so hear you.

What is that, like $2000 per pound?

Yes. Unless you do the math using only his dodgy liver. In that case, he’s more valuable than gold per oz.

Thank you! Now I can just focus on the emergency fund, and I’m like halfway there already!

Goodrx and seeing if there is another form of prescribing that could work out cheaper. Like if its cheaper to get a prescription for a 10mg pill that you then split into 5s or 2.5s. Works best if it’s something that is also prescribed for humans so the higher dose is the “standard” and therefore cheaper.

Please, please, please do not order pet meds (or any meds) online through websites promising them super cheap. Try to work through a legitimate pharmacy because there have been some awful cases of counterfeit pet meds being sold and leading to pet death.

Smart! Thanks. I’m a horrible helicopter parent, I’ve even called the makers of this doofus’s heart worm and flea and tick meds to make sure they’re from an authorized seller.

Meal planning day:
Chicken florentine pasta (use up spinach)
Ham and broccoli fritatta (will probably also use up spinach)
Teriyaki stir fry
Mongolian beef with peppers and carrots (beef from freezer)
Enchiladas
Curry

Other things we’ve had recently:

  • Philly cheesesteak sandwiches (this is where the extra beef came from)
  • Balsamic chicken with roast vegetables - brussel sprouts, parsnips, carrots, potatoes
  • Wild rice and wraps using leftover balsamic chicken, pears, spinach, cranberries, walnuts, Italian dressing. (Every time I think about making a salad it becomes a wrap, Mr. Meer greatly prefers wraps as a food delivery method.)
  • Extra roast vegetables ended up getting mixed with pasta later in the week for lunch along with shredded Parmesan and Italian dressing so it was kind of pasta salad-ish.
  • Roasted red pepper, sweet potato, and butternut squash soup with rolls.
  • Chicken pot pie

Feb was a bit of a pricey month, and it got to the point by the end that I decided to hold off on getting vanilla, even though we’re supposed to be tracking numbers without judgement, and technically our target in the budget is 700 for grocery and restaurants combined.

Hit $15,000 in emergency cash savings today, and that’s without the bonus because it hasn’t hit our account yet. That’s going to seriously speed up my timeline!
