Oooh this is a great idea: we do have one, but my wife is the one who operates it, so I always forget about it! I wonder if I could use that method with beef bones from Sprouts.

This made me laugh. Yeah, don’t do this, people.

I also swear by the instant pot method. One of the big benefits of it is that you don’t have to stink up your house with broth smell until the batch is ready. I always hated boiling something for like a full day and having my entire apartment smell like broth. It would be less of an issue with the bigger house now, but especially in small spaces it’s a sanity saver.

I make stock all the time. I do use a huge pot. I know some recipes call for straining and stuff but I just use something like this to pull the bones and everything out:

You all are the best! Will try it this week and report back.

Yeah a lot of recipes call for a bunch of extra steps like browning things and skimming bubbles and all sorts of shit? I don’t do any of that. :joy: I haven’t died yet.

I forgot I have sour cream. What things should I make to use up sour cream?

I probably have 1.5 cups. Also, I have half a package of cream cheese if that creates more dairy inspiration.

Taco bowls! Heaven.
-ground beef with taco seasoning
-rice
-some grated cheese
-lots of salsa
-lots of sour cream
-lettuce, avocado, and cilantro are all good additions but I sometimes skip.

Mix. Eat the glorious resulting goop. Rejoice.

You could shake it together with a bunch of lime juice as a dressing! I use that on chilis and tacos and salads and all sorts of stuff. You could also use it as a dipping sauce for fries, add spices if you want, or hot sauce. You could add ranch seasoning or something equally savory and then use it to coat chicken (and bake it). That would probably be really good.

What can I do with pasta sauce that’s not pasta or shakshuka or pizza?

We have a bunch and I’m making shakshuka tonight.

@Elle do you have a favourite recipe for sour cream cakes? I’ve tried several, but they always end up drier than I hope.

@Crow favourite sour cream scone recipe?

(I do have applesauce too, so I could splurge and get takeout pierogi from the Polish diner, or make fake latkes)

This looks like the recipe I use:

I like it in blended soups in place of cream!

Sour cream is almost exclusively used in our house for steak diane or twice baked potatoes.

I don’t! Because I never have sour cream. I’m surprised they turned out dry. The whole point is moisture,!

Pizza-dilla dipped in. It’s a quesadilla with some pepperoni, dipped into pizza sauce. Ultimate easy comfort food lol.

The sour cream talk made me laugh because we consume HUGE quantities of it. I think about 1 large (possibly quart-sized?) tub per week. Seriously, you would think it was yogurt, which we consume in even larger quantities if school is out for the week (I have seen the children consume an entire gallon of it in a week). It’s just always this Thing at my house, we refuse to buy more than one large tub but if there is more than one meal where the children want it, then there is the threat of it running out.
