I usually do manage minimal eyes at home, at least a bit of liner and mascara. Skincare, yes. I had to go without my Ordinary face cleanser for like 3 weeks because the package was delayed and I didn’t want to schlep on a really long bus ride to get to the Deciem store here, and it came yesterday so I used it this morning and feel better.
I do not, however, generally do hair. My hair’s long and straight so I run a brush thru it and that’s about it. Maybe at some point I’ll break out the curling iron.
I have no idea what this is, will have to look it up!
I did a small grocery run yesterday and got the following:
2 avocadoes (on sale!)
taco shells
bag of spinach
eggs
powdered sugar, cocoa, corn syrup*, nilla wafers (rum balls ingredients)
hand soap
bananas
kleenex
Total: $27.45.
*WTF do I do with the rest of the corn syrup? I never eat corn syrup, but this recipe really does need it to help hold everything together.
Yeah, I feel a little weird giving away opened food, but I did unload a mostly full jar of molasses that way before.
Too bad I can’t give away unused alcohol there. No one I know wants the triple sec that I’m not going to drink before moving as margaritas are for summer!
As long as you are upfront about it being open, people can make the choice for themselves about whether they are comfortable with that. It would go in a minute in my group!
ETA: I was the recipient of some opened molasses last year. I was so grateful because I couldn’t find it in the stores.
We also have a mutual aid fridge/pantry that is a bit of a hike for me, but is a good way to unload unwanted food. I dumped a lot of excess garden produce there and felt really good about it.
People even give away open bags of like, popcorn and chips in my group. (People usually specify they pour into bowls lol but not always! And there’s usually takers)
OK, see, THERE I draw the line. Ewww, food that people touched! Even before covid!
But yeah, there’s a fair amount of food given away in mine too. I guess the sticky nature of corn syrup is skeeving me out - but hey, if someone can use it, all good. Probably someone’s going to make, I dunno, pecan pie or something this holiday. That’s the only other thing I can think of that it goes in and I’m not that into pecan pie.
I use corn syrup instead of maple syrup for my granola.
2 cups rolled / old fashioned oats (not quick/rapid/instant)
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup slivered almonds (not the thin flat sliced, it should be slivered or chop whole ones yourself)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup syrup (corn, maple or honey)
2 pinches salt
350F
on a silplat & cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes, stir, another 10-12 minutes, take out. if it isn’t golden, put it back in for 3-5 minutes, keeping an eye on things.
I add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp five spice and 1/4 tsp mace at this point, and stir one more time when it is still hot, but the original recipe just lets it cool and adds two cups of dried fruit.
I try not to give things I can’t imagine taking, but one time posted an unopened jar of a spread (Taramosalata) that my friend got and left… only to be corrected by Human that it had been opened! But the interested party was still interested, so
