Meme-ing our way through

I really wish there was some way to mark myself as having voted already so I could opt- out of all the calls and texts and banner ads.

And in fact, I have voted, and my vote has been counted. Soooo…yeah…

I am not on FB but am on IG and have noticed they are very quick to notice things on the front end of things (let’s get you voting! Oh! You must be pregnant - here come the maternity wear ads!) but there’s no way to stop them (oh you ARE registered to vote? Oh well, we’ll still ask if you are registered to vote. You did vote? Oh well, we’ll still ask if you are registered to vote. You’ve had a miscarriage and you’ve been reading, liking, and searching for things related to miscarriage? But do you need maternity wear and baby items?)

I can’t help with calls and texts, but there is a way to tell facebook you don’t want voting information. If you need that, I will go look for it.

Also Youtube. The algorithm (sp? spellcheck is useless) is working in that I’m agreeing with most of the ads about voting but it’s kinda moot now because my ballot has already been turned in.

With all the “social graph” info online advertising platforms have, I think ads during video streams are abysmally poor at targeting demographics. Advertising should be more lucrative than during live TV because there’s so much potential targeting information, but I see zero evidence of that.
