$615 of donations? I mean, good on them, but thatās a lot for a ānormalā budget.
A lot of that isnāt too far off except rent
But they clearly never buy cleaning supplies, clothes, throw pillows, electronics, etcā¦ Just food rent and internet
$30 a month for a house cleaner? $130 total for transportation- maintenance, car note, gas, registration, etc? The rent and internet are only reasonable if they have multiple roommates which likeā¦ we expect someone making $100k a year to need roommates to be good with money? But then the utilities portion are crazy high, so that doesnāt wash.
The house cleaning must be twice yearly and then just divided I to cost per month. I was just discussing with a friend and incredibly wealthy person in their 20s whose parents bought them a house, high salary job, and they wonāt hire a cleaning service, just letās the place be grossā¦ The food to rent ratio is whatās getting me ???
The rent and food were similar (not exactly) what human and I spent sharing a 1br. 130 transportation might be a train pass and some ubers for someone in an urban area. Housecleaner might be a monthly or fortnightly visit to keep the peace with roomies or spouse.
Itās just one data point. But unlike many such posts I think some of the numbers they present are within the realm of reality.
Yeah my internet is only $15/month so $20/month is believable to me. The cell phone and health insurance is also similar to mine.
Ok this is a question I have: is spending $615 on (letās assume direct, charitable) donations per MONTH the best use of that money instead of funding elections for politicians who will actually tax billionaires?
You are not a foodie
I promise I am!!! My food to rent ratio is .4 (still high), this personās is .79. but yes Iām not a foodie in the sense that most restaurants are a waste of time unless youāre in Paris. Iām a good cook
I classify political giving under donations.
Donations is anything given to people I donāt personally know (thatās gifts) and donāt get a service in return.
Ditto. I donāt go out anymore. Nowhere in the area can compete with what I make at home. Iād rather go to taco bell than eat the stuff people here like.
(Usual caveats, I havenāt been to that many places, just got very disappointed by a few highly recommended ones and gave up)
My town has hardly anything good that we can get take out from. We just go out on Friday night out of town and eat in the car. I cook the rest of the week excepting maybe breakfast on Saturday or Sunday.
Iām like this with coffee. $4? And you donāt even have a single origin? Good day to you sir.
I guess ours is close to 0.5 right now (0.4 to 0.6 depends on month probably), but if we both worked from office and stuck to a 1br home or both worked full remote and moved somewhere cheaper we might be at 0.7 to 1 rangeā¦ Weāre good cooks but bad at time and energy management!
ETA so I donāt propagate comments. As a single person I spent 200 on groceries and probably around the same on takeout (due to travel and loneliness). COL was really cheap so my rent was 400. As a couple, we have very reliably stuck around 400-600 average in groceries regardless of income, and 300-500 more in restaurants, coffee, and adult beverages. Iāve stopped feeling bad about the latter after grad school and during Covid, our luxury is someoneās paycheck and it saves my sanity to not cook once or twice a week.
Health insurance - no idea
Groceries - yes yum, but are you good with money?
Donations 615 - I think this lines up with after some deductions tithing?
Rent - do we live in freeville? In a closet? No I will not watch this
Internet - shared or crazy cheap?
Housecleaner - very weird. I enjoy the conspiracy theories
Savings???
Other spending???
That is all. Thank you for being good with money
Iāve decided:
Nudist. Only hobby is dining at food carts. Lives in a dense urban area with 4 other people. Uses google Fi. Owns no pets or electronics, except their cellphone which is provided by work. Gets REALLY cold because of the nudism, hence the high utilities portion.
