Men like as in the oldtimey way of saying people? Bc if so it’s funny and I like it

Edit spelling and typing

I think it’s a reference to Howl’s Moving Castle

:+1: I saw the movie ages ago and have only read discussion about the book but yeah, Howl is dramatic and Has Issues.

(So does Sophie, the woman in the moving castle. But if they helped themselves with therapy… and communication… there would be no story.)

Yep! Howl be like that. But when you replace howl with men instead of people, it’s funny because there’s a movie reference AND misandry. But if I, a massage therapist, reference the movie by saying

Massage therapists wish they could afford a moving castle so we could avoid therapy

It’s funny because I’m in the group I’m teasing and my group is not able to afford a moving castle, but we do identify as fictional magicians.

Otherwise the meme is funny if we agree to read it good heartedly as people.

Now I’m having anxiety from overtyping

I get what you’re saying. You’re saying it’s unnecessarily calling out “men” versus a career or a specific individual. Yes?
I agree, but think that memes are inherently short-hand. They can, by their nature, never hold the true vastness of life.
And this one is calling out a behavior often associated with cis men raised in toxic masculinity, where getting help (via therapy or other methods) is not done/considered weak, and therefore they don’t. I see this as amusingly poking fun of a serious problem in the world (people not getting help) via a book/movie which distills the problem.

I would like to think of it as such! It is referencing a specific man, but let me tell you…the mental gymnastics I put myself through before I finally went to therapy would qualify me and I am not a man!

I am also very tired and not 100% engaged ATM. I can absolutely remove the meme if that’s what’s needed. I also think it’s poking fun at toxic masculinity which isn’t the same thing as misandry.

Man here. Not feeling offended. Very much would avoid therapy at all costs.

Right, so that’s why my first thought was “let’s read it as people because then it’s funny without being problematic”. Maybe I should have kept that thought in my head and just enjoyed it that way

One of the reasons why I’m trying to avoid my own tendency to just laugh at and enjoy the humor around this kind of subject is because I think that it doesn’t help tear down toxic masculinity. I believe that it reinforces us vs them.

I’m dropping this now because I didn’t think that the meme was a big deal

Dropping in to say that I think it’s funny, I need to watch that again, and I would 100% move into that castle after the day I had yesterday trying to get someone to take my money to do a therapy at me.

Cool discussion on misandry, toxic masculinity, and humor! Had a good laugh and walked away with stuff to think about. You are fun humans.

Ha!

But yes, yes I would.
